I am trying to install weather stripping on my front doors and am having a problem with the adhesive sticking to the rubber. 3M 08008 .would appreciate any help. Thanks, Tommy

Rub the weather strip down with alcohol prior to gluing, at least that's worked for me. Seems the weather strip has a type of preservative on it.

you need to apply to both surfaces and let it dry for a few minutes before putting the rubber on the door.

My method. Take door off and put it on a table. Test fit the weatherstrip. then clean the weatherstrip and the door with some cleaner, I used brake parts cleaner sprayed on a rag. The weatherstrip has powder on it that has to be removed. Put adhesive on door and rubber. ONLY DO ABOUT 6-10 INCHES AT A TIME. Let it air dry for a short time and stick them together. It takes time and patience. The test fitting will show you exactly how it goes on, so it is kind of a trial run. A heat gun set on low can help speed things up if it is cold, but be careful

Heres my set up with a roll around stool:

Weather strip from city racer . I did put it on both sides and let it tack. I will try the rubbing alcohol.

I think I'm heading in the right direction. See pic.I cleaned the door, which is new paint and rubberwith wax and grease remover .after the tack time and you apply it how long does it take to hold.

Good set up!! As the glue air dries it kind of goes from gloss to dull. Once you stick them together it only takes maybe 20 seconds to take a hold. When you apply the glue swirl it on in a thin layer it should stick to the surface. Let it dry and put them together. I used 3m super weatherstripping adhesive black.

I used same method as above, but also put tape on the outer skin of the door, and then used spring style wood clamps to keep tight while moving around the door.

Removes paint as well. Use wax and grease remover used for painting. Dupont or PPG. It is not aggressive and does not leave a residue.

I did this over the winter as well. I put tape along the out edge too. That 3m glue gets all over. Get some large plastic spring clamps like you use for a bag of potato chips to hold the strip down. I looks like your door has no glass but if it does roll the window down. Start in the back corner and do 6-10 inches down the door and across the top. Use painters tape to hold the strip in place. I ran a thick bead on the door then pressed the strip in to spread it out. When you pull it a part it will be stringy. When these strings start to dry out in 20-40 seconds then press the strip on. If done right the bond will set up fast but I still wrapped tape around it to make sure didn't pull up at all. After the corner is done and bonded you can work your way around either way. I did both legs back and forth until I met the ends at the bottom of the doors. Cut the slack and glue the ends together with super glue.

Also, be prepared for your doors to be difficult to shut with the new ws. The backs of my doors stick out about a half inch and I haven't figured out how to fix this. I think the front edge of the ws is just not squishy enough.

Yeah, but try that popsicle stick method with a continuous ws that you can't just set aside and let tack up. This job was one of the least enjoyable projects I've done on any of my Land Cruisers and the fact that my doors still don't shut properly made it that much more disappointing.
