Replacing the stereo system in my 01 LX470 and had to remove the passenger seat to remove the amp.

While I was there, I noticed the passenger seat floor mat area was wet, along with the carpet near the door.

Have checked the sunroof drain in the A pillar, but it doesn't seem clogged near the drain. My sunroof is inoperable, so not sure how to ensure it is not clogged.

I'll never use my sunroof (planning a full length roof rack) and curious if anyone has ever just caulked the sunroof permanently closed so no water can enter.

Thoughts?

Sun roof drains get clogged as well. Check those and snake with weed whacker line.

Great idea with the line. However, my sunroof is inoperable and won't open.

Leaking A/C evaporator would have been my first guess. Check for blockage of the drain hose.

Where is this drain hose?
The evaporator is located behind the glove box, and the drain hose exits the vehicle on the passenger side. If you ever notice a puddle under your car on a hot day, that's from the A/C evaporator. If it's leaking inside your rig then I would guess the blockage is right at the evaporator.

I had the same issue on my ‘05 LX. After eliminating sunroof and blocked tube, I went with the evaporator packing gasket. It’s a very simple gasket around the air cond. evap unit. Part #: 88578-47040. About $14 from Toyota. There are multiple threads for this, but they some times refer to it as heater packing. The title on the package was: “packing, cooler”. The job took me about an hour all in. Stopped the leak immediately- the old one was shredded after 14 years. If 01’s have cabin filters, get those while you are in there. Hardest part was removing the cover panel for the gasket area while not removing the dash. It can be done by removing one lower dash frame screw, flexing the lower glove box frame out and sliding it down. Hope this helps.

Ran the AC yesterday while doing some highway driving. Believe I have found the culprit.

Good. That’s better than worrying about windshield seals and what not. I’d be relieved if I were you.
