Hello All,

Just been through heavy rains in N Carolina, Atlanta.
Drivers side carpet wet, pulled carpet and the most saturated area is at the top nearest the foot rest.
Drain plugs still in floorpan, should they be?
Never had this before, probably as we have spent most time in dry Los Angeles.
Any ideas gratefully received.

Best

John

I had some leaking years ago in my 02. Turned out the drains up on each side of the sunroof were clogged.

I used some TIG wire to clear those suckers out.

So far, so good.

Water Leak

Macnell,

Thank you very much for that info. Was it the drivers side getting wet, or both?
Will try the wire tomorrow, many thanks.

Passenger side. My wife was not happy...

The wire will literally clear the passage down to your windshield area.

Good luck!

Open the sunroof and carefully pour some water into the front 1/2 of the "channel." If you stick your head through the hole where the sunroof was, you will see the drains to the left and right. You should see the water quickly drain out under the vehicle after you pour it. Most likely one side is plugged.

Don't rule out a faulty windshield install, others have had it. If it gets to the electronics, your in for some nasty troubleshooting. Best of luck

it is your drains... had the same issue with mine 3 months ago...

Drivers Side Footwell leaking

So thank you all for your responses.
First thing this morning bought some 18 guage wire and tried to feed wire down drivers side sunroof drain channel. Wire would only travel about four inches, so I abandoned this in case of puncturing the pipe.
Next I blew compressed air into the sunroof drain hole, again to no avail.
So I Found a great independent in Atlanta, Toyo Techs, they do a lot on Land Cruisers.
The culprit was a pinched drainage pipe. About four inches down from where it attaches to the sunroof nipple, see picture below.
The pinch would allow normal rain water to flow through, but any more and it was backing up and running down the inside of the interior trim, and then down over the electrics to the floorwell. Must have been installed that way in the factory, and due to lack of deluvian downpours like the one last night in Atlanta, went unnoticed.
All fixed with the aid of a trip to Lowes for 10' of 5/8" clear plastic pipe.
However about an hour into our return journey, water / condensation started to drip from the AC housing in the passenger footwell, then a sharp left hand turn dumped some more down. Any ideas?

I have had this problem for awhile too. I always assumed it was a leak in the evaporator housing, but have never attempted to fix.

Been raining like hell in Atlanta these past days. GA-400 was flooded completley.

I have a few drops of water every now and then.

I'll check mine someday now since I have a hint on what it us.

Water found on drivers side floor near the seat. It happened after heavy rains. But in my car there are no sunroof. Where I can find clogged water pipe? Maybe you have some pictures?

But how come drivers side floor is so wet near the seat? Door seals? Maybe there are some other holes for drainage?

Have you had the windshield replaced? Any thing done to your roof rack? Windshield and roof rack is where I'd look next. Get a friend, have them soak your LC with a hose while you sit in the front seat. See if you can see or feel where the water is getting in, check the door jam trim near the grab handles...

Close all doors and windows. Turn on the AC/Heat full blast in recycle mode . Put a squirt of dish washing soap in a squirt bottle fill with water. Spray the soap/water on the outside of the car all around the windshield the roof rack bolts in the roof. The Doors and window seams and when you see bubble you will know where your leak is.

i had this problem. Turns out there is a rear windshield washer fluid supply line that goes under the carpet on its way back to the rear. There was a plastic splice near the seat that had worked its way loose. Rear washer fluid was being pumped into that area, wetting the carpet.

ScubaJon, you'll be right. Roof rack was installed some time ago on my LC. And I have to double check it.

If your seat belt is also wet, check that the roof rack bolts are tight. Mine were loose and I had all of the above symptoms. I tightened them and all is fixed.

Check the tightness of your roof rack bolts.
