the neediest of our vehicles is at it again  GX470 in Arizona: water appears on the passenger side A pillar and also drips into the footwell from further below during and after rains

no, it's not the clogged drain of the A/C (had this happen on our other GX that live sin Baton Rouge)

and it doesn't seem to be a clogged sunroof drain either, because we carefully snaked weedwhacker line down and water poured into the sunroof channels runs out the bottom holes as expected (we just did this a few days ago on our 80 series trucks, so know what to look for) - BTW, green color line has the correct size and stiffness/flexibility for this job

but, in addition, water appears on the inside at the passenger side (top of A-pillar and right by the A-pillar below the glovebox) - almost as if the tubing in the A-pillar may be missing/disjointed from the sunroof drain somewhere ?

anybody have an idea how best to approach this ?

Thanks in advance, Claudia

Have you taken the A-pillar off to inspect the drain tube? It's possible that it's come loose at the connection to the drain tray, and that the water you see at the bottom has run down the outside of the tube. Fortunately the A-pillar covers are fairly easy to remove and if you end up needing to peek under the headliner, the front can be dropped a few inches without removing the entire thing.

no, haven't removed the A-pillar cover yet - I am afraid that it involves the typical plastic snaps that never want to go back into the right position again

good info to know about the headliner - thanks

update:

given that the A-pillar contains an airbag, we decided to leave this to the dealer. They found the drain tube completely disconnected, and reconnected it again with a better clamp. Not too bad as far as price: $145 - couldn't have done it for that myself

finally something that's not a gazillion dollars and well worth it to have done at the dealer

Nice to see a good price at the dealer.
