watch out for these used steel jerry cans...

I always carry a US spout and then use the Blitz tranny spout ( I have both NATO and US cans) And then just pour from the can. Little to no spillage and the screen at the end of spout catches the crud.

I never thought about any of this being a problem. I'll have to look into getting a mesh filter!

there are still plenty of used diesel MFC's available
for purchase.

I know someone whom bought two just the other day.
They looked as good as new and were a reasonable cost.

so I know they're still obtainable

Does it have to be new

conversion is as simple as flushing them with a splash of gas...
changing out the cap designation strap
and replacing the diesel gaskets with the Viton type.

If you want cheap Scepters, make friends with someone in the Army. Mine cost $25 each new. The US only uses Scepter - so how can you not find any? Even the the Canadian diesel ones say US on them.

The hardest part is getting one of those slick military spouts. Similar to the one shown above, but the collar has a lever and rubber gasket so you don't have to mess with screwing them in. Kick ass....

They're now illegal for sale in the US. Even the parts. Stupid CARB. Stupid EPA. Stupid Gravity, no wait, that last is something else.

Hi All:

That looks like a good piece of equipment!

They make a funnel filter for fueling small aircraft like Cessna's etc. that have a filter buuilt into them. They will take out all particulate matter and even seperate out water I believe. you can get the here:

DUAL FUEL FILTER FUNNEL from Aircraft Spruce

Cheers!

I bought four of those and they all leak vapor. I have ruined gasoline in them. Even with the seal they seem to loose aromatics. The gaskets are fine and fresh. It occured to me they were engineered for diesel and not gasoline so maybe that is the wrong application?

Considering selling my Wedco Jerry Cans

Today I decided to rotate the gas in my 4 Wedco Nato style Jerry cans (pre-CARB) and one of them had a huge flake of orange lining floating when I opened it. The other three looked fine so I filled up with the others and no debris in the filtered spout. The can with the big flake of lining I poured into an empty 5 gal paint bucket.

There were lots of little flakes that made it through the filtered spout. The spout had to be cleaned out several times as it kept clogging up with big chunks of lining. It seems rubbery when its wet but thin and plastic like when dry (not brittle though). Then I used a siphon to fill from the 5 gal paint bucket into the tank without including any of the orange bits.

These were brand new from December 2008 just before the CARB went into effect. I purchased them new from Expedition Exchange. https://www.expeditionexchange.com/wedco/

I'll call them tomorrow to see what they have to say.

All the cans linings have turned orange from their original red, I guess due to contact with gas. Only one shows any signs of flaking. The others still look solid.

After seeing this, I think I'll sell them all and just go with cheap plastic jerry cans you can get anywhere. I have a rooftop tent now so I won't be carrying any gas on my roof anymore.

I use a shaker siphon with cheese cloth over the intake. Works a treat!
