warn winch issue

I had the same problem, with my M12000, the first time I free spooled it out as well. I got almost all the way in and let off. Dead button going in after that. Spool out was still good. I ran into the issue at GSMTR this year. after a short hard spool in, or a long no load spool, it would not work after lettin off. Does the thermal protection logic allow power spool out since it should be less/no load, and not allow the power in until it can cool down? After speaking with talking with Richard(one of the guys with the IPOR group at GSMTR) he had been down this road and had upgraded to the Endurance 12000.

The Endurance 12000 has the best duty cycle rating of all the Warn winches since it has a fan system that blows cool air into the motor housing. Theoretically, the thermal protection logic has been changed since the motor should be running cooler. He says that he has not had a problem since.

I plan on upgrading to the 6 hp motor and seeing if the case can be adapted to blow air into the motor like the E12000. Also will be upgrading to the after market solenoid. That should do the job.

This is a shame with so many problems on this winch model. We're not talking a "Harbor Freight" winch. This is a high dollar winch.

I bet that the M8274 would pull just as hard and without these problems. I've read many accounts where they out pulled a 12,000K winch, and they do seem more reliable.
