Warn winch break assembly help

I took apart the break assembly on my xd9000i and let it accidentally unwind.
I know the Warn service manual states:
The brake unit is spring loaded. Should
the brake unit unwind it will be necessary
to replace it with a new brake assembly.
Never attempt to rewind a brake unit that
has come unwound.

A new brake assy. is $112.

Has anybody tried to rewind it and get the brake to work?
Rewind clockwise or counter clockwise?
How many turns to rewind?

Get a new one. Trust me you will always be fawking with the brake. It will drag or be too loose. 112 bucks is easy peice of mind for something that will work the first time.
