I have a older Warn M12000 that I got used. When I got it I opened it up, cleaned it and put fresh grease in it. Also put new selonoids in it. But I didn't touch the motor side. I was using it the other day and noticed just a few drops of water drip from the motor side. The motor got really hot during use also. One of the guys said it might be time fore a rebuild including a new motor.

New motors are around $250. Not cheap but not the end of the world. Does this sound like what I need? Does anyone reputable rebuild them or is it best to replace them?

Motors are pretty tough as long as the windings haven't burned and shorted and the armature hasn't thrown solder. They are easy to rebuild. Take it apart, clean up the commutator, brushes and lube it up and run it another 10 years.

That's a good idea. I opened the motor and the rear bearing was frozen. If I can replace it and clean up the motor maybe that will fix things. Any ideas where to get the rear bearing? Also what would you clean the communicator and armature with?

1. Warn
2. Get the number off of it and get a new one on line or at a bearing supply shop.

i just bit the bullet and ordered a new Warn motor. The old one looked kind of so so. Probably would have been able to make it work but the new motor will give me a good piece of mind.
