Bought a warn 9000 XD bout 10yrs ago and worked great in s. fla and here in Denver. Then I happened to give a ford 150 a kiss at maybe 40 mph with the ARB bumper and the winch has not worked since. :doh:I had the engine running and my guess is that either the spool was bent and wont turn or more likely the power can't get past the control box which is shot. The box took a bit of the kiss from the ford. Does anyone have suggestions on what to test or should I just buy a new control box from warn ? Got all the numbers from the winch. Might also have to buy a new bumper. :bang: Anger theres 8 bills  ANything will be a help. Thx in advance

Test the motor itself with jumper cables by hooking up the three posts on the top of the motor in the following way. Reverse the two posts next to each other to change direction. Be sure the ground on the bottom of the motor is connected.

________
O (to Batt +)
O
________O(connect to single post)

Cruisin,
1st thx for the help. I think I'm a bit cornfused - disconnect winch from the batt all together and then reverse the two lines that are close together that go into the control box with jumper cables from the to check motor operation correct ? What control will have over the tow line ? If she unspools will I be able to go correct and spool the back in ? I'm a newb and learning what I can as fast as I can. So many ques.
Again thank you for your time . . .

Check to ensure the solenoids are energizing. If not that could be your problem.
Do they switch 12 VDC

To test your winch motor you can carefully apply high current +12 VDC potential using a jumper cable to either of two power lugs on the motor. One is for forward and one is for reverse.

Is your XD9000 has M26626 stamp on it?

You say cafefully apply 12v power, gotta ask how is this done ? Any way to find out which is forward and/or reverse ? The cable is tight as it sits now - dont want to burn the motor and have to replace everything. If the solenoids aren't getting energized, I would need a new control box or solenoids at least correct ?

My XD 9000 does have M26626 stamped on the number plate what does this indicate ? Also on that plate are D 969, N F006NMO602 ??
All of this is new to me and I'm paying this price for not paying attention when I should have, super glad I found MUD when I did, just wish I found it yrs ago, had the LC before the site was started thank you mucho lots.

Disconnect winch lead from (+) terminal of battery.

With jumper cables-
Connect one of the pair of posts to the positive terminal on the battery.

Connect the other two posts together. Only takes one set of jumper cables.

Reverse the connections to the pair of posts to reverse direction of winch.

If your winch is currently already spooled in tight, unspool it by hand if you can before you try this, since you won't know what direction it will turn beforehand.
