Alright, which winch would you say would be better to get since they're pretty darn close to the same price. The Warn 8k or the Tabor 9k winch?

I wouldn't want either on my 80, too small.

Same price? go with the Warn 8000, that is a proven winch. (abiet too small for an 80)

An 8k winch with a snatch block > 12k winch without.
An 8k winch with two snatch blocks and extra cable = 12k with one snatch block.

More important than the math... What are you mounting this in/to? Assuming an 80... What bumper?

My 12k is admitedly more winch than my bumper is rated to handle (ARB = 10k).

I'm mounting it on an ARB. As for the 12k winch, that's out of my price range. Plus, I don't see myself using it all the time to warrant the price of a 12k. I'm more curious as to what other peoples' experiences have been with the Tabor winch because I don't turn up many results when I do a search.

Be sure to budget in the price of a good snatch block rated to 16,000 lbs for your 8,000 lb model, tree saver, shackles, heavy gloves, etc... Wtihout the related gear, the winch is just a real expensive ornament.

I would not install a winch into my truck that I know will likely require the use of a snatch block.

In your situation I would rather buy a used 12k than a new 8k.
