Just registered...first post....I currently own an 86 Bronco and will be selling it in search of a nice 60 series Landcruiser. What should I be looking for, or more importantly staying away from, pros and cons, tips, etc?

Start with the FAQs. Asking the board to provide you a primer on buying a 60 series is tall order.

By the way, you are stuck with "86 Bronco" as your user name, unless you abandon it and register under a different user name.

just look at it like a tattoo of an ex girlfriend....

X2 start with the FAQ and use the search function on a regular basis! Everything you ever wanted to know about a 60 series is here! Enjoy it as much as I have!

Welcome to Mud!:flipoff2:

I already got the FJC madness! Thats why I got a 62! I'm a glutton for punishment!

Bronco boy

81-87 was the FJ60. 4.2l straight 6 (2F), carburated, 4 speed manual, 3.7 diffs.
88-90 was the FJ62. 4.0l straight 6 (3FE) EFI, auto overdrive, 4.1 diffs.

In stock form, the 62 is a better highway vehicle, but a 5-speed manual would trump both of these factory options. Many prefer the looks of the 60 with the round headlights, and the straightforwardness of the carbed engine. Others (me) like the looks of the 62 better, along with the overdrive and the less stuborn EFI....

There were diesel options outside the US, but these were the only factory offerings stateside.....

Or you could get the best of the 60 (looks, manual tranny), 62 (EFI, improved dash) and 80 (coil spring suspension) all in one truck...

Project Uranus look at post 478...

Now you're gonna have him looking for one with the five speed. Don't bother dude, they weren't imported, and finding one is as hard as woodpecker lips. There's plenty of clean and dry 60's in Tx. Accept no rust, and the later model the better, in general. You shouldn't have to spend much over 5 grand, and may find a decent one well under that. Fuel prices being what they are, Austin would probably be a good place to look.

I wouldnt trade my 62 straight across for an FJcruisers, NO WAY and NO HOW!
As frustrated as i get with my 62 at times, it still way better IMO than an FJC for the solid axel alone. PLUS, the wagons have waaaaay more CLASS!:D
Read the FAQ and post up what youre expecting from your rig...what do you want to do with it etc.
If I didnt have my 62, Id consider the FZJ 80 above all else for a great all around rig out of the box (so to speak). They can be had pretty cheap now a days, some with factory lockers, and the lifts (as Im to understand) are easy to install and fairly inexpensive.

Crusiers definately have their kwerks, but if youre anything like the rest of us here... if you love em, you love em and youll do damn near anything to keep em.

I was about to put a "for sale" sign in mine about a month ago...I opted for the V8 swap insted...

Chicago

I don't do any heavy wheeling...I just want a nice/classy Cruiser for the town and some highway.

not sure where youre at Bronco, but here in Seattle and Portland there are a BUNCH of 60's for sale very cheap. Like no rust, nor major issues fro $1500-2000. Thats a steal.

Frame rust and Roof/Pillar rust are somewhat common. so stay away from those.

you want

You want a 85-87 FJ60 bone stock and clean with 220k or less. Better to start from scratch then trust someone elses work you don't know. (Although Ige did great work on mine FTMP)

OME 2.5" Heavies
Bilstein 5125's
Anti inversion shackles
Greasable pins
33x12.5 meats

and your done
