Is there a way to hang something off the garage so as soon as the front of the hood touch it he could see the string it's hanging off of move?

Yeah, the landlord won't like the holes or glues. Hot glue doesn't work in the heat, it just becomes too. My boy isn't a maniac but he's a new driver that has to park within 6-8 inches of the house so he's not blocking the sidewalk. Tiny driveway. May have to fab up a plywood and railroad tie parking block to test with.

have him pay for any repairs out of his own pocket - you won't believe how fast he will learn to stop

I came up with a fairly simole setup consisting of a 1x4 (or similar) fastened to a 4x4 with screw anchors in the driveway cracks. That hides the anchors when I remove it. Proposed it to the landlord and he did the very same at his new place! Thanks for all the brain power storming through this challenge!
