Hi
Looking for an excellent condition (willing to pay $$$, I don't have the time for restoration), low mile (100k or so) BJ42 with a 3B. Prefer a rig without rust, in perfect working order, pretty much stock though limited lifts and bigger wheels are ok, just nothing monster (32's or smaller).
My 1987 FJ60 is in good condition with 245k miles. Light silver ext., grey/blue int. (My fav combo). Recent valve adjust, K&N, Accel super coil, new Bosch Platinum plugs, Bosch 8 mm wires, 2.5" cat-back exhaust (Man-A-Fre). Engine runs fine, though not the smoothest idle, but is pretty strong on acceleration. 4 spd. tranny is starting to show its age--a little sticky, but functions well. T-case can pop out of gear on the trail. Truck has newer springs (rear end sits up, and truck does not sag or lean), Rancho 9000s on rear, POS Heckathorns front, OME steering stabilizer. I am about to rebuild front axle (seals are weaping) and replace all tie rods and relay ends, turn or replace rotors, new pads, repack the newer wheel bearings (30k miles). Also about to drain and flush coolant system, new t-stat etc. Stock wheels, 235/75r15 tires with 33% tread left (1 is newer because of rock puncture in sidewall on trail). I may have 31x10.5s on it soon. All fluids changed religiously. New smog pump and all new belts. Newer clutch master and slave. 2x2 trailer hitch. Truck does have oil leaks from engine (front, rear main, oil pan) and t-case--totals a couple drops per day.
There was some rust over the passenger rear wheel well (began under trim--all superfluous trim has been removed from truck), not too major, but I did not cut it out (knocked off with chisel, wire brush, sanded, bondo, primed, painted with touch-up spray, doesn't match perfectly). Also surface rust on lower passenger quarter behind wheel (not in wheel well, was under the damn trim of course). Sanded, primed, sprayed. Evidence of collision on rear driver's quarter behind rear wheel (rippling of metal evident inside the tool/rear washer cubby). Bondo job is not perfect (things just don't line up perfectly, but it took me 6 mos. to notice). Frame rails have some surface rust but are otherwise strong. Hood was resprayed by PO but paint does not match perfectly and was a cheap-o job as it is oxidizing now. Some rust around battery and battery tray.
This would make a good restoration project, or a good hunting/camping rig (a full size futon matress fits perfectly in the back he he
).
I figure the FJ60 is worth between $2-3k in trade or sale. Located in Humboldt County, Northern California. brendanbrisker@yahoo.com
