I just bought a 1984 Fj60 and the engine is completely shot. Any advice for finding a good replacement that won't completely break the bank?

How bad is your engine, is it rebuildable? Rebuilding these engines can be expensive because of the lack of aftermarket support, and the fact that Toyota has discontinued so many parts.
Parts for these things are expensive, and sometimes hard to find. A lot of times guys swap in a small block Chevy to make more power, and make it eaiser and cheeper to get parts. Either way, its gonna be expensive.

Agree with the machinist. We need a bit more detail on the why/how it is dead. Give us some of the symptoms as it may just need normal tune ups etc.
This guy has been sitting on this for a while. Like 9 months. It is not a 2F but a motor from an FJ62. Is this a 3FE? Cannot remember. This would mate to an automatic but maybe someone who knows more than me can tell you if you can just bolt your bellhousing and clutch to it.
