ha not on an airplane until Monday I actually did use the artwork fromt he 25 vin plate. its alittle different but it was a huge head start. my vin plate is a bit differnt than Merbes but I will post up what I come up with.

The plate in this pic is from my 66. I too have changed my engine to a 2F but the block is from a 60 so who knows. I think it would probably be better to keep the plates with what was originally on the truck. I will take a look at the 65 LV I have and see if the plate is different than the 66 pic above. Please count me in on some plates as well for sure. The work you have done looks great to me.
 
there are 2 different plates
i bet the early one is different then the later one ?

I believe Shane is AAtlas1x. He makes and sells all kinds of repro labels and stuff. I have tried to contact him about shifter plates for the glove box a few times and he never replies to me (is it something about me?!?), but hopefully you will have better luck.

I am and have many many samples from over the years. The cost factor is high as I am sure you heard from FOX and just having the art work done and a run made is not cheap and expensive to floor the whole cost. The more the cheaper of course, but what ones to make the most of? The ratio of all the years?

Also not an exact repro but freakishly close. Once installed you would never know. You would also need to have the serial number and etc punched in. I might include a sample metal tag for practice along with. I would also do them in thicker gauge.


I know what your thinking, just do a prepaid venture huh?? That scares the crap out of me! I fear that something bad would happen and I would be holding the bag and then a thread on some guy that did not deliver on his promise.......

In a pm he told me I am not doing the vin plates at this time.

So I guess that it would not be stepping on his toes to continue
with the current project.

I was (and am) looking for a shifter plate that has auto transmission (4l60e), and old mid-sixties handle in the middle of the dash transfer shifter info. I think its the same one you did for Matt on the LV. I'll send you a new PM. Thanks!!:D

This is the old style/manufacture. The new plates and vin plates are done another way. BUT I have 4 of these left and will not do them again.

If Shane hasnt doen em yet, and I had enough of an order to get the first batch paid for, I might be able to do em. But I'd need the ok from Shane. I dont want to step on anyones toes.

The hard part of the newer data tags is the Teq stamp. The die would have to be made and it is a copywrited insignia by Toyota.

Here's a couple of other examples.

If a person took a digital photo of a year-correct VIN plate to a business that does trophy engraving and printing you might find they can do a very clean job of making a new tag. They are able to scan the picture, and from there they enhance and clean the image, then they use black-faced aluminum plate, at a thickness virtually identical to the original, and then use a laser to remove all the ink except for what is to be left behind.

Then they engrave the correct numbers and codes onto the tag. Costs about $100.

The engraving is much closer to the factory original than stamping bits would produce. The engraving is the way to go, because the results are really close in appearance to the original.

These are easy and cheap to make. I had mine done at an engraving, signmaking shop. If I recall it was about $35 for two. THey scan the original, clean it up digitally, then have it stamped, engraved or whatever they do on aluminum. Make sure you keep the original. They look totally OEM. Black ink and engraved as the original. Anyone local to you should be able to do it in a day or two. Clean your original as much as possible and take it in.

So... what if we can't find our body tag? I have looked all over the engine compartment, firewall, fenders, inside the cab... nothing. Heck, i can't even find the depressions in the metel where a tag might have been fastened.
Is there some place where i haven't looked? :bang:
