I keep seeing a ton of cruisers down here in Victoria.

Are there ever any parking lot meet ups? Seems like the drift kids meet up at saveon frequently and I think we can do a bit better than that.

Just wondering if there is something repeating already organized in the lower island area?

Set a date/venue and lets do this!

We used to meet somewhat regularly at the 6 Mile Pub. It was somewhat central for those in Western Communities and those in Victoria. It was also close to highway incase anyone from up Island wanted to drop by too. There's lots of free parking, and always room to sit down without reservations. We sat in restaurant side so that minors could attend (people's kids).

Used to get turnouts like this:

I guess if this is up to me then I should get my cruiser back together again...

I was thinking keeping it simple and just some coffee in a tim Hortons parking lot. Keep it to the uptown area for now and see if it grows into something.

That's about 2 min from my house. My cruiser is in pieces too, haha. I have kids, and unfortunately that is peak busy time for us. Probably only thing that will work on my end will be evening's, but even those are hard to find free these days. Kinda why I stopped trying to organise meets, LoL.

Anyhow, just do what works best for you and hopefully some people can make it out. I will for sure if I can.

Yeah I'm in the same boat with two little kids but we will see if there are a few that can make it. If no one seems to be able to make that time we can always try a late one too

Too far for coffee.

Oh man, if this goes the way it's going might have to invite the jeep club just to have a turn out :(

Yeah, there's not many of us on this forum anymore, and most are north of Duncan now. Doesn't make sense for those guys to drive so far for coffee....

Back in the day I used to put notes on people's cruiser windshields, or chat them up if I see them. We got meets with a dozen people or more that way. But to keep interest had to plan events and stuff.

The demographic has changed a bit now with the ridiculous cost of cruisers. Now it's not your typical car nut into these necessarily. That and people don't want to 'wheel' as much anymore as the vehicles are more like a collector car than anything. Kind of too bad; but the reality of the situation I guess.

There is a facebook page. If you really want to get something going, you could feed some energy into that and probably catch some folk's attention?

Oh wow that Facebook page is old. To be honest I am totally surprised by the lack of chatter in the cruiser world in this area but your explanation makes a lot of sense. I guess times have changed a lot since I bought my 80 series for $3k. I guess not only is it more of a nieche group but also trail access is so much more difficult here in Vic than it used to be making it less of a fun hobby.

At the rate of interest here it might not be worth me sitting in that parking lot for a Saturday afternoon but will see how things go :)

If it goes ahead, I should be able to swing by. I can pick up Nick on the way by if he wants to arrive in a Land Cruiser... otherwise he can park around the corner if he's ashamed of his current ride ;)

I knew a lot more 40 and 55 owners back when I was leaving notes on windshields. Now about the only 40 owners I know in the Victoria area are @RumRum, @hellbent40, and @Rigpig. I can't think of any 55 owners... and 60, 70, and 80s aren't even that common. That said, I know of a nice 70 that lives on Saanich near McKenzie, and an 80 on Lilly.

Back in '92 I'd cross paths with a handfull every week. Now, not so much.

Yeah i see a few 80s around. There is actually a nice white one with manual and 1hdt swap that I had a convo with at a traffic light once. Not sure if that person is on here but we had the same setup (except mine is auto). There is also a shop up in keating that seems to have a number of cruiser parked outside. Would be nice to be a 40 owner! The good fortune restaurant in Sidney also had some land cruiser owners working there a few years back.

I know the truck. White 80, beige interior, and 1hdt swap from his JDM 80. He used to be on here, but I haven't seen him in a long time. The booster and master in my 40 came out of his donor truck... I can't remember his name off hand. I believe he also had a 4:1 low range in his split case.

I could probably drive to Panama and find a route now thru the Darian Gap faster than Cruiser
guys will dare to cross the Malahat.

Little off topic...but:

Recently watched a youtube doc of land rovers (or range rovers?) that made the trip through Darien gap back in the day (with epic support like helicopter supplies, dynamite, etc.). Was pretty interesting, but whole time I thought they should have taken cruisers! LOlL.

Documentary

Now it's virtually a highway due to all the migrants coming through. Pretty sure it would be easier going now! Could pay migrants to help out on the way; give them some food and $$.

Victoria has gotten pretty much to the same level of avoidance as the mainland for me.

Always needed 2 reasons for a trip, and princess auto doesn't really rate anymore... I can get Chinese garbage delivered to my door now 🤣🤣

It's always impressive the organization that land rovers can put on. They had that camel trophy comp, that Darian gap. I guess it's usually funded by wealthy British people but it's still always an impressive operation.
