I have a 2006 LX and I'm wanting to put a switch on the dash to turn VRGS on and off. I really don't like it on the highway and it's fine around town. I just have very little feedback in the steering wheel and I feel like it's constantly messing with the paw pack. Maybe it's a position sensor issue.

Hey guys, I found this thread when trying to diagnose my VGRS issue which starting to pop up randomly after I refused to fix my old rack and pinion and instead, replace it with new. Shop reconnected PS hose to rack and filled in with new fluid. Had intermittent VGRS issue where my steering would go 180 degree off center and shutting it off and restarting it would be back to normal. Changed rack with brand new, aligned and have VGRS failure perm immediately after my alignment.

below is link my thread I created with data from techstream etc. anyone has any input for me? I plan on telling the shop to pull out my actuator and check the multi-core cable as mentioned in one of the posts above.

From Lexus...(link)
"Lexus has determined that the construction of the steering shaft on involved LX 470s is such that the snap ring on the shaft may disengage when the vehicle experiences an unusually severe impact to the front wheels, such as striking a deep pothole. If the snap ring becomes disengaged and the steering wheel is then repeatedly turned to the full locked position, the steering shaft may disengage over time."

Sorry to hear about the problems you are finding, everyone worries about getting lied to when they buy a new rig. It sucks when it happens to you.

I've had my VGRS electronics unplugged for a week and a half without any issues as all. I was hoping to test out the replacement parts I got in late last week over the weekend but got too busy with different things. I'm still hoping I can get it tested and calibrated tonight after work but we'll see.

Good luck with your rig, if you need parts I can give you the ebay seller that pulled the VGRS ECU from an '07 last week he is parting out. I was impressed with his communication and it got to me fast.
Hello how do you unplug the vgrs I am retro fitting my 03 Lexus lx with the lower and upper shaft from 02

I was attempting to recalibrate vgrs but it won't let me due to these codes. See attachment . So frustrating ..

Ugh!!! Dammit . . Well my steering wheel is straight and drives straight down the road tho. I was hoping and praying it'll recalibrate itself after driving it for a while. .

Are you going to do a vgrs delete ? What are the part # for that 2002 upper and lower shafts? Thanks man .

The vgrs and vsc lights are solid . Never flashed .
It all started when I installed new alt and battery. After those 2 installed, started the car right up and those lights came on and has been on since then .
Yeah mine did after mass air flow sensor and steering was way off good luck

I can't tell you if this will work, but I saw a YouTube video of a guy who simply turned his wheels straight, then turned off the engine and disconnected the battery for 5-10 minutes. I forgot if was the positive or negative terminal. He then reconnected and drove it. In several minutes, the light went off. Sounds too good to be true, but it apparently worked for him.

Iv seen that method, I actually tried it last night but it did not work for me . I'm searching for that paper clip jumper test, I dont know which pins to jump . I'm gonna try all of the cheapest and easiest methods others have tried and worked first then I'll go through the hard and expensive methods next.

There is a manual way to unlock the steering actuator "if not using hand held tester". And you can also try and manually clear DTCs at dlc3 (verify that Ts,Tc, Cg and E1 are in the correct spots, some docs don't correlate with the actual pin out of dlc3) I haven't done these manual procedures, but I'll find and attach the procedure in the off chance it works for you. Maybe @LandCruiserPhil will loan you his vgrs module? Since he got it for free, and all ;)
Edited to attach docs
Thank you for this ! I been searching far and wide for this manual procedure .

On my wife's 2010 LX570 the VGRS light had been on for weeks. Techstream would say "lost communication with VGRS module" or something like that...I was about to open the whole steering to investigate, which I really did not feel like it, then I happen to take it to get fuel and notice the VGRS light "coincidently" went away on the FIRST start after fueling...then came back after that...A NEW GAS CAP RESOLVED VGRS LIGHT! I had been looking online and never saw this so clearly stated anywhere but it is true....
