Have just heard along the grapevine that the VDJ7# order books will not be reopened in Australia and production of everything other than single and dual cab 79 GXL will be finishing in September, followed by the GXL utes Q4 2025. Apparently the GDJ7# will be available with a 5-speed manual transmission, not sure if it will be the H152 or something else.
Happy to be proven incorrect and sad to see them go, the 1VD-FTV has proven itself to be a robust engine if maintained properly and 170rwkw and 700 rwnm with an exhaust and remap made for a very nice drivable truck, and the H152 gave anyone with a H150/H151 a good, easy to install transmission upgrade for better highway manners.
Not sure if this is AU only or global.

Can anyone prove or disprove? Not sure if @OGBeno or @cruiserdan or anyone else with Yota connections has heard anything?

Most likely true. It’s an antiquated engine and Toyota is getting out of the V-8 game.

Makes complete sense. Just like Toyota did with the 80-100 series transition by biding their time with the 105.

High efficiency/high powered 4s/6s and eventually hybrids and electrics will be the future shortly for most cars.

And it makes sense for 79 series to continue a bit longer as they are on a dedicated manufacturing line at Toyota Auto Body Fujimatsu plant.
 
It will be interesting to see what kind of prices the last of V8 powered Cruisers command in the Australian market. 😊

It would appear, at least down under, that the V8 has been the engine of choice. 😁

That’s an average of 11,500 v8’s sold per year. Seems like enough to keep selling them.

hopefully the recent chevron case will lead to the boot being at least partially from the neck of innovation in the US

We have fuel efficiency standards coming in the next couple of years, I suspect this helped make the decision for Toyota.

If they replaced with a common rail and VNT equipped 1HD-FTE, it would be not so bad, but 4 cylinders are weak sauce.
 
Bad news, I was reading 90% of current sales are the V8, very disappointing we will now be stuck with the Bundera version only, I know why they didnt but I wish they had at least put in the TDV6. While the V8 figures stock are poor the majority are easily turned up to much higher outputs, the 4cyl just does not have the headroom. Either way for a 2024 vehicle 150kw is pathetically low.

Yes, just like the prices commanded by the last of the 6 cylinder models, when they were being purchased by all the people who decided that the V8 was going to be no good.
