Valve Cover noise after Sparkplug seals replaced

Hi everyone,

I have been noticing a high pitch noise while on throttle ever since my spark plug seals were replaced by Toyota. This required the valve cover to be removed, below is a video:

Interesting. Sucks that you are having this much trouble over such a simple fix for a competent shop. Hopefully they get all of this sorted out for you.

Sounds like the squeal/chirping is a little delayed from the RPM rise. Sound also makes me think of a bad idler bearing.

what I find really odd is that this was not happening prior to the seals being replaced. The sound is very audiable, and it’s coming clearly from the passenger side valve cover general area. so this is the third time the truck has to go back to Toyota , which is very frustrating to say the least. If they claim to resolve the issue and something else comes up, I will be requesting a meeting with with the service manager.

Do you have the par number of what was replaced, besides the serpentine belt. It is odd that I am experiencing the exact same noise after my spark plug seals are replaced. I am not sure what is the connection between this valve cover job and noisy belt/tensioner.

Tensioner assembly plus pulley is 16620-0S012 for my 2010 ($72). Sometimes you can replace just the pulley for $10-20, but I don’t see a Toyota specific part number for it.

It’s a little tight for space, but you can usually put a mechanics stethoscope/long screwdriver on each area near a pulley and verify which one is being problematic. YouTube would help show you some tips if you’re unfamiliar with that.

I don't know why this happened, but it 100% had not happen since the valve cover job was done. I wonder if fluids spilled on the belt, causing it to squeak etc but here are the part numbers that were used on it:

The job is pretty straight forward and can 100% be DIYed. It just involves removing the fan shroud / fan / removing the belt / remove tensioner.

The tensioner has a bolt on it, that if you use a wrench, and turn it counter clock wise, will expose a small hole where a small Allen wrench can be inserted to hold it in place. Then the belt can be removed (no tension). After that, you can remove the tensioner part itself, which is held in by some bolts. I would definitely use one of those mirrors on a stick to help during this process. I did a post on a water pump replacement which shows / discusses most of this.
