Running v not running - I don't care - but adjust your valves when HOT. You can do them cold to get the hang of things, but then do them again when hot, and not just kinda warm - but HOT.

You could also just get a wrench big enough to use on the crank bolt and make it alot easier
You actually have more leverage turning the wheel.
I adjust them with the truck running! works great and the oil doesn't burn that much 
Adjust them with the truck hot AND RUNNING! Save yourself a bunch of headache.....
Tune the carb so the idle is low and fuel is very lean (truck barely idles), adjust valves, and then retune carb.
Every time I tell people to adjust a 2F with it running, they freak out. So to them, ************ in advance
I agree running is the best way.
