Allrighty..

Any big deal if I do a tune-up myself and then have a shop do my valve adjustment?

What I mean is... the valve adjust won't affect my tune-up.. I won't foul the plugs if I have it done after the tune-up.....???

Or is there a sequence that is better? Like valve adjust first.....

Does it matter?

I have the FSM..

I just think that I'd no way be fast enough and the freakin things would cool down way before I was ever done with the adjustments.

My fear is screwing it up. I've never done it.

Just get it up to operating temp, then while it is running start removing things like air cleaner, valve cover etc. When you have everything unbuttoned, turn it off, set it to TDC and take the valve cover physically off and start adjusting. If you work at a moderate pace it will still be warm enough when you are adjusting.

It doesn't cool off that fast. You might as well do it safely, shut off the engine then take off the the air filter housing and valve cover. If you worried about the clearance, start it up when your done adjusting, let it warm up again then go back and recheck the valve clearance.

DIY-- it's not hard to do and you'll get the satisfaction out of knowing you did it and did it right. it's really the only part of the tune-up process that is a bit labor intensive but it's not difficult.

TIP: wear a pair of those mechanic's gloves -- saves your fingers and hands from the hot engine components....
