Hey guys. I joined here last spring and have lurked around for a while. I put out a wanted ad but got no bites, but we now have added kid #3 to the mix and can't lug the whole crew around in my current vehicle. I'm located in beautiful Southwest VA. Willing to do a day trip for the right one. Since this is a daily for the family, I'm looking for one in great condition. I'm also not that mechanically inclined but can do most bolt-on stuff.

I know what you're thinking: "JY, a 100 series is right up your alley, dude." I know, but I've always loved the aura of 80s, and I want to try joining the ranks.

Must Have
  • Excellent mechanical condition.
  • Under 200k miles
  • 3rd row seats
  • Really good exterior/interior condition, no rust
  • Airbags, hence 95-97

Would Be Nice
  • 40th Anniversary / Collector's Edition
  • Tasteful mods (OME, ARB, etc.)
  • Roof rack for all the crap
  • White or green preferred but not a deal breaker
  • Located in the Southeast but can make accommodations if it’s the right one

Budget
  • $10,000 to $14,000 depending on condition, location, and/or mods.

Thanks in advance.

You might want to check out a number of websites as you don't really have much time. Also check out the listings here on for sale.
Craigslist in Vermont has a cherry 80 for sale FYI

Thanks a lot. I've looked at all the open listings here that I can tell and have some feeler PMs out. I'm eyeing ebay/CL/AutoTrader, but they're so hard to trust unless they're close by. Hoping a mudder can come to the rescue!

Check out car gurus as well.

Here's some free advice...its worth what you paid for it.

Take it from a new 80 owner. If you're not mechanically inclined..you better become so inclined. Or at the very least be prepared to spend A LOT of money on your new money pit. These trucks are 20 years old at best. Even if you find one that's in excellent condition now, it won't stay that way for long and constantly paying labor to fix your LC is cost prohibitive.

Good luck on your hunt for your LC.

You gotta spend money on something to drive. IMO the right land cruiser is a sound investment. Every vehicle needs maintenance.

Greetings!
I'f you are not in a hurry/rush I have a 96 that meets your criteria . I will be driving it down to South Florida in a month or so and if you have any interest in taking a look at let me know. Originally a west coast vehicle and never been driving in Winter and as rust free as you may find.
Regards

Thanks. Sent you a PM.

I’m kinda in the exact same spot.

I now have 3 kids, and my 2006 Element (I love this car, and love its bare bones feel, manual transmission, etc) will not hold 3 car seats.

I really don’t want a newer car, as I loathe all the computers, High belt lines, etc.

I was thinking of an older Suburban or Tahoe, as my commute is tiny (6,000 miles a year)

I live in FL, and don’t need to worry about snow or mountains.

I happen to come upon the Land Cruiser as a viable option, but I’m just not educated enough about various years.

I’m not too interested in one that’s modified, and looks like a bug out vehicle. It’s certainly not off the table, but not my goal.

As far as maintenace goes, my current 12 year old car requires oil changes, tires, brakes, and an occasional throttle body cleaning. I assume a 1997-2008 LC would be about the same, just more expensive (larger vehicle)?

My budget is 15,000, max

Any thoughts or ideas, I’d appreciate it

You can look up "cost of owning an 80" on the 80 forum. Education is key. I would buy out west and get it shipped for the cash you have. Then get the inside redone. There are guys on the forum who will check out a truck for you.
The op had/has 10 days to find one. No pressure there.

Haha I removed my 10 day time frame. Too ambitious to make work. Decided to just sell the Jeep and be a one car family for as long as it takes OR find my 80 then sell the Jeep.

LOL watch out for flooded vehicles.

I have a truck you can call me about 214-673-7960. Way to much to type. The truck is perfect and needs nothing.
