V8...NICE!!!!!

That 60 is going to be a monster. Nice.

Yup, 5.7 vortec and 4L60E to split case. I got the whole truck at a salvage auction. 98 1/2 ton with 60K miles. If I had it to do over, I would have bought a Howell harness. I hammered out every circuit on that thing, I think there's over 120. I have the AC hooked up, the NSS and reverse lights work. I prewired it for cruise control and gear indication, I'm running out of time and steam, so those will get incorporated later. Hopefully today is the test drive, if I didn't already jinx it by talking about it :)

It drove under its own power today. Whew.

The sbc and auto is way lighter than the 2F and 4 speed. Now my shackle angle in the front is too vertical, so the ride sucks. The power more than makes up for it. Nice not messing with a choke and ethanol fuel with a carb. This thing fires off right now every time.

Off for pipes tomorrow.

Congrats! That first swing around the block after a swap is a leap of faith and when nothing grenades it's a real confidence booster. As for the schackel angle, just add a big beefy bumper with a heavy winch and you'll be back in business.

"Choke"? What's that? I've forgotten...

I'm jealous and nostalgic!
I've also got a freshly rebuilt '98 L-31 and L460E sitting in my shop with nothing to stick it in.....

Get an 80 series Land Cruiser with a trashed engine and drop it in. SFA, coils, FF rear, good diff gear selection, big enough to carry all your junk and great after-market support for things like bumpers and sliders. After the swap you would have the best off-road capable vehicle ever offered to the general public with the sound of a Chevy V8 that every red-blooded guy loves even if it isn't a Toyota engine!

Let me know when you blow your 1FZ-FE trying to turn those 37s you plan to get.

My truck would be an excellent candidate for you. '97, low-miles, 2-owner, desert dune and not that horrid bile green you see so often. Only 1 minor door ding caused by some blind guy that was trying to spot me over a speed bump.

Never off road.

$25,000 with working engine.
$5,000 with broken engine.

I visualize you as Gene Wilder and me as Richard Pryor trying to get your truck over that speed bump. :D

Is that new? :D

Big chuncks of rock were still falling off the door and the blind dude asks "Is that new?"

if you had a V-8 that wouldn't have happened. (trying to keep the thread from total derailment

What about the dent in the roof from the basketball hoop when you did your Michael Jordan impression?

Nobody shorter than Michael Jordan can see that one.

This truck is way easier to drive now, I think I'll sell off my beater cars. Anybody want a cheap Mercedes 240D? 300D? 300TD wagon?

Here's the as is truck, had new meat installed today. I wanted the 255/85r16, but BFG only makes it in a mud tire, and they're $$$. I decided on 5 of the 235/85r16 at's, they're pretty skinny, but I think it works with the sua.

I never thought I'd hook up an OBD scanner to my landcruiser :)
