It's about time to replace the timing belt in my 100, wonder any of you have it replaced? And for how much?

I do wrenching on my fj40 and replaced timming belt before, but the 100 is my daily driver and just don't want to monkey with this major procedure. The Toyota dealer want $798.00 including replacing the drive belt.

my dealer quoted me $425 for the timing belt replacement only. My 1999(covers up to 2000) Toyota service pricing book shows it as $310.81. Labor $205, parts $65, misc $26, tax $15. Now prices very well might have gone up a bit, time to replace is 3.6 hours.

drive belt shows as $105. .4 hours labor

I'm thinking the labor rate I used is a "bit" low($55) what is it now $80 an hour?

Just had it done on mine last month at my local Toyota dealer. $380 parts and labor, that price does not include tax. The price for the t-belt was $48. I also had them change the main drive belt while they had it for a little extra.

I called my dealer here in NC and they quoted me $369 to replace the timing belt however that does not include a new accessory belt or new coolant. I started asking more questions about what it did include and he basically he said just the t-belt. I called back after more research and asked about other items while the engine was opened up'd. He started to talk, he recommended a new water pump $88 and camshaft oil seals and NEW coolant. Stealerships will catch your old coolant and reinstall it if you do not ask for new. Also, the waterpump, to replace while the engine is apart is .5 hours however if the waterpump goes out and has to be replaced by it self it is like 5 hours of labor because it sits behind the timing belt.

Does anyone know of any other items that should be done while the timing belt is being replaced. Here is my list so far.

Replace timing belt
Install new waterpump
Install new camshaft oil seals
Install new coolant
Install new accessory belt

This total bill should be around $600 bucks.

What's the schedule on timing belt replacement, 90k miles?
Is there any reason to do it early?

Had mine replaced at the dealer in November. Total cost, out-the-door was $278.30; about half what I expected. (Seems like anytime you go in for parts/service, and mention Land Cruiser, the price doubles!)

For the timing belt, parts $50 and labor $109. The total also included a new serpentine belt ($78) and a gallon of coolant ($16).

I work for the dealer... 90k is when we recomend it and moast do really need it espacially in california where the smog in the air really does a number on all rubber parts, . Usually moast of the ones we do require 2 new idler bearings as they are loose and noisey when removed and spun by hand and we try to install a new tensioner just to make all the parts like new "good for another 90k w no worries.It is a good idea to ck the h20 pump also as it sits behind the belt and is driven by the backside of the timing belt,. for our overley paranoid clients we put in a new crank seal also no labor just $10 bucks for the part
prices above look ok but our labor rate is $90 per hour
Not a hard job just a little time consuming to lean over the radiator fo that long

Yeah, I thought about doing it myself and looked at the FSM it looks like there is more trouble than it worths and rather spend the time wrenching on my fj40

Since I noticed that the price is too high at almost 800 bucks so I call different Toyota dealers and found one dealer that I bought my truck from back in ' 98 (abit longer drive to get there) will do it for 350. So I am scheduled to bring it in Monday.

Nice, now rewared your 100 by getting new coolant, new accessory belt, new water pump and the other items mentioned replaced and your cruiser will be good for another 90k miles.
