Ute was fine until tuesday, when the mech who fitted the ball joints/did tracking took it for a test run it cut out on him & he was towed back, he spoke to me & showed me the Engine 15am fuse was blown, replaced it & the truck was running fine until this morning when l headed down the track & it blew again, replaced it drove 25ft it blew again, replaced it..drove 10ft it blew again, replaced it, decided to then disconnect the new EDIC it seemed to drive okay for 1/2ml so l returned home & picked up my old EDIC & fitted it back onto the ute..started the ute on idle it blew the fuse again..Now waiting for recovery to take the ute to the sparks shop 10mls away...any clues guys...?

(l checked the chip EDIC & its blown diode C3...crap pic but it shows the blown 'yellow' diode)

Checked your charge voltage after removing the edic?

Engine fuse is only connected the edic and the regulator, unless it's shorted to the chassis somewhere.

Thanks for the feedback Dougal,
The rac guy checked it tonight...less than 5 amp...it must be a short somewhere, got it going with a 25amp fuse then dropped it off at the sparks... he'll try & look at it tomorrow. l might've trapped a wire fitting the stereo...it was ok before it.

Iirc the wire pops through the bulkhead into the engine bay next to the regulator somewhere, suggestig that it would run in the harness behind the stereo.
There are metal clips that secure the harness behind the dash - they can cut through insulation and could be a good place to start looking.

Thanks. l'll give him the info in the morning..... its odd that the washer stopped working before any work was done, he's fixed it before...it maybe a good move to back track from there..

Maybe tugged the harness through the hole in the bulkhead slightly to get some slack wire for a repair, and nicked it??

possibly, the initial repair was done back in april\may & it was fine until last saturday...when w/washer stopped...the stereo fitting might've exacerbated the issue...as every new connection is crimped & taped...

Your suggestion will give me an excuse to fit the new bulkhead grommets..(both large oval grommets for the wiring harness included)....

The washer should hang off the turn fuse, which is quite large (20A).
Hope it hasn't overloaded and melted part of your harness
The wipers work, so it must be the washer motor/wiring... the only fuse which blew was the eng 15amp...l'm hoping the rac guys 25amp (temp insert) hasn't damaged the harness... The ute wouldn't turn off with it fitted & had to be clutch stalled.

Sounds like your EDIC needs a closer look

l swapped over the new chip version for the original a couple of weeks ago, it was ok for abt 50mls then started smoking, then it stopped..its been working fine ever since (l assumed with it being brand new it was settling in..temp wise)...l was going to send my old temp/preheater unit for a check up, but l'm waiting for a fresh pull cable to arrive to rig up the fuel pump..once its here l'll send off the old edic/preheater unit for diagnosis... there's defo something going on with it, as the motherboards been cracked & repaired.. Its a pain it started playing up now when l'm busy & have the weather to get things done..but can't...l'm hiring a van from saturday whilst its in the shop....
