I have a 94 FZJ80 with 150K miles (TJK throw off). Pretty stock. My drivers side window has come loose from the track. Does anyone know if there is an adhesive that should be used in this situation? Any recommendations. The FSM does not mention an adhesive. I just wanted to make sure.

Thanks.

Loose where? on the bottom where it attaches to the regulator?

Loose Where

It showed up first when I hit the express down button and the window stayed put. I was able to lower the window by hand until it landed in the track again and I raised the window using the switch. I have left it alone since then. I assume there is a rubber liner between the channel that actually lifts the window and the glass itself. I figured there would be an adhesive to bond all these components together. I know, I know, I used assume and I figured in two consecutive posts. Recipe for destruction.

Sounds like your window has detached from the tracking arms. I don't recall what mechanism holds them to the arms, but you should be able to re-attach/assess once you take the door panel off.

May want to run a search to see some old threads on how to grease the components to smooth out the operation... while you're in there.

R2 is on the right track (get it? track? :D )

It is indeed possible that the glass has come out of the metal channel that attaches to the regulator. It is also possible that one of the regulator arms has come out of that same piece. Toyota did not use an adhesive to bond the glass to the rail, it is a press-fit with a rubber gasket between the glass and the bracket. You will need to pull the trim panel off to get a look-see inside the door to identify the exact cause.

If it is related to the regulator I would recommend that you replace the regulator. I had similar problem with mine a year or so ago. I popped the arm back in and put the door back togther and the fawker poped right back out... So, I put a new regulator in and all is well.

If the glass came out you may be able to pinch the edges of the rail in a bit to increase the tension. You may want to consider getting a new rubber gasket for the bottom as well.

Most don't use any type of adhesive when reinstalling. On a previous rig, I had to fight with the DS window several times until I added some rubber cement to the inside of the rubber gasket that fits between the glass and the track/regulator. I used rubber cement (the same stuff used for paper, because I knew I'd be able to rub if off, if necessary. I didn't want something "permanent" in case I had to replace the glass someday.

There should be something related to window replacement in the archives.
