Yep. If they (a) made a kit to finish the front fender when the running boards are removed, and (b) made a kit to remove all mud flaps, I might consider getting one............My wife loves both on hers, but I think it adds about a thousand "visual pounds" to the vehicle

When I bought my LX, the running boards were gone within the first 2 hours..........still haven't found a kit to replace the mud flaps if removed.................

(a) they don't need to make a kit to finish the front fenders when your running boards are removed because the running boards aren't even part of the body panels.

(b)Mudflaps are screwed into inner fenders just like a normal Tacoma or tundra. There not pard of the body panels. Only the front mudflap wich is a tiny slab of rubber thats sticking down, but isn't intruding at all. That can be easily trimmed with a dremel in 5 mins with a cutting wheel bit.

As for your LX470, you go to the Toyota dealer and order a front mudflap for a Toyota LandCruiser. It goes where the front of the boards used to be.

Things don't have to be complicated. Just look at the good ol Arabian LX470s. They use LC mudflaps with black tin LC running boards. Yes, them running boards on the Mid East LCs are like tin.
 
Gentlemen, comments are being made about soccer moms, which I think are out of perspective.
I came to know Landcruisers while looking for the safest most reliable vehicle on the planet for my girlfriend. If she was going to be carrying my children(eventually), I couldn't have bought more peace of mind anywhere else. Only after We purchased it, did I learn of it's legendary status. I have since been bitten by the bug, and am searching for a 40 and another 100. I appreciate all of the knowledge and I understand the history, learning more every day and I wouldn't put my family in anything else. Nor do I have the desire to drive anything else(except for maybe the Lexus LS)

Thanks for the reply. When I re-read my post, it was a bit confusing.....sorry about that

1. I was originally responding to a comment about a photo of a modified GX in an earlier post in this thread. What I meant to say was, I still haven't found a kit to "finish" the front fender on a GX when the running boards are removed, as both the GX and the LX use a running board that is incorporated - though not a part of, like the new LX570 - into the front fender. It sounded like I was referring to a kit being unavailable for the LX, but that's not the case, as I performed that mod. at the time I removed my running boards (see below) I just wish there were a kit to cap off or otherwise finish the front fender on a GX, but I haven't been able to find one.

2. You're correct about the mud flaps in one respect: they can be trimmed. However, to remove them completely is not practical without fabricating something to go in their place (again, I'm referring to the Lexus, not the Toyota). For instance, if you were to remove the rear mud flaps, there would be nothing securing the rear bumper fascia to the body. That, and it would look unsightly behind the rear tires (not to mention the mud those areas would collect)

The more I see the GX, the more I like it, but I just can't get past the "heaviness" brought on by the running boards / mud flaps. Even though the GX is quite capable off-road, I think I'm still going to find a later-model LX to replace the one I have (if the one I have had the safety features of the '03->, I wouldn't get rid of this one, as with 137,000 miles on it, it's as solid, rattle-free, quiet, smooth-running, etc. as it was 100,000 miles ago!) Gotta love these trucks!

The GX and the 2008 LX570 are victims of uglyness when removing the running boards. Even the Toyota Prados cladding wont match the GX. I think it was a dumb idea to design the cladding to mate with the running boards. Toyota knows that these trucks will be used offroad and they know that even by mistake, they can be dinged up so don't integrate them dammit! I hate running boards..

Prado on the other hand has a seprate running board and isn't integrated to the mudflap.
