Upgrading the 80 for a 200

I have Scheel Manns in my 40, love them. Firm but very comfortable.

I test drove a 250 recently. Drivers position is great, but different than the feel in the 200, 100, 80, 60 etc. But I guess it's a Prado so going to be different.

Modrn dash and tech is cool, power delivery was not as impressive as I'd hoped. I also drove a new tacoma with the same motor and I think the Tacoma was more fun to drive. The larger Hybrid motor in my 22 tundra however is great, I really like it. But the 4 cylinder TT in the 250 compared to my 200 - more peppy off the line, but I prefer the V8 in my 200.

Had a UK spec 80 with the 24 valve 1HD-FT. LOVED IT! Was well kitted and I brought it to Africa. When my wife was pregnant with our first child, the manual gearbox Toyota pulled from a bus drove her nuts. It just didn’t shift well in 1st/2nd gear. We sold it and bought the face lift 2017 VDJ200, and OMG. I remember her saying, pregnant with our 2nd child that the factory 200 was significantly more comfortable than the kitted 80, even off-road. My 200 was not the expensive VX model, but more of a base model GX-R. Came with the same manual gearbox found in the VDJ7x series, but no KDSS stuff. I put Harrop E-lockers in front and rear, lifted it, put on some protection and BFG’s and off we went. Best family cruiser ever. Road trip queen and handles the whoops off-road with aplomb. Tows the off-road caravan like it’s not even there. I also have a kitted VDJ79 DC, and while I love the view over the hood, and it’s off-road chops, despite my best efforts, it’s never gonna be as nice to drive as the 200. From what I’ve heard from the South African and Namibian guys, the 300 is next level still.

So to update this, I ended up getting a VW EV as a company car on a stupidly cheap lease. They're basically giving them away

Am keeping the 80 series as an RV, fun car and garage queen. All the enthusiasm I'm getting from you guys about a rental camper is intriguing, and I may well sort that out in the next year or so

Thanks for all the input

My DD is a Honda Civic. I bet most of us with 80's have a DD these days. 10mpg is hard to do daily.

I sold my both my 80 and my 100 in the last 3 weeks.
"There comes a time" as they say....
From Money Ball: “We're all told at some point in time that we can no longer play the children's game, we just don't... don't know when that's gonna be. Some of us are told at eighteen, some of us are told at forty, but we're all told”

I'm en-route tomorrow to buy a 200......

We purchased a built 2013 200 when we had an engine issue with our 1996 80 (which is awaiting a new power plant). The 200 is MUCH more comfortable on the highway, which is 85% of our driving, and it performed very well on an off-road journey to Robber's Roost in southern Utah.

Ended up getting a 2014 with 140k miles.

Finally got your quote... 😂.
Congrats, you will enjoy it very much 😊.

Did you get the "lowest mileage and newer LC you could afford", or was based on something else? The 14's are 😎
