(edited Nov 2024) Slowly over time I've been trying to collect the parts required to upgrade the rear disk brakes on my 3/92 80 from the smaller rear disk brakes to the larger version. Partly just because I can, but partly to gain a little more braking also. I've been running bigger upgraded front brakes for nearly 10 yrs.

Reviewing the Toyodiy diagrams reveals that the main parts needed are:

- rotors (42431-60170 or -60171 x 2)
- backing plates (46503-60081 or -60181 x1 + 45604-60040 or -60041 x1)
- caliper mounts (but not the actual calipers themselves?) - 47721-60020 + 47722-60020
- handbrake shoes 46540/46550 + 46580/46590.

Terrain Tamer HSBK3 spring/pin/shoe kit suits the later 80 rear disk brake setup (includes HB shoes). Toyodiy shows a few other parts that differ slightly between smaller and bigger rear disk brakes:

- 46553G return spring #3
- 47456A plate shoe guide
- 47611 and 47612 parking brake shoe lever lh and rh

Most of the other parts appear to be common between the early and later rear disk brake configuration. Please chime in here if you think different. Rear pads appear to be the same for both smaller and bigger rear disk brakes (db1200?).

Seems that only one side of the backing plates is still available out of Toyota new.

Ta re brake pads. Going to pull my LHR wheel today and get the rotor off to inspect and check what the current state of play is.

Ok well fast forward a bit - still running the smaller size rear disk brakes, but was able to get from Toyota a pair of genuine larger rear rotors. The smalller disk brakes have been good but the rotors are aftermarket and I get a heap of brake squeal from them in moderate to heavy brake applications. It might just be the pads have finally worn down, so need to check that.

I've updating my original assessment of the parts needed. Probably find some of the parts are NLA. Hmmm
