I'm a long-time lurker on the site, and owned an FJ60 a long while back. I'm thankful that this site is such a great resource.
I purchased a 2008 LX570 a few months back, which had a few miles (109K) but was clean and a full service history at regular intervals. I read through the majority of threads in this forum prior to purchase, and felt well-enough informed about possible issues prior to purchase. This past week, I dropped the vehicle off at the local Lexus dealer (Northern CO) to have the radiator replaced preemptively and the transmission fluid changed. The radiator had a small line forming under the data plate, but was not visibly leaking. The trans fluid was original, so I decided it was time for a change at 110K.
The vehicle is my wife's daily driver, and after received the vehicle back, it began slipping at 3-4K RPM under acceleration. Prior to the dealer service over 1000s of miles, the trans had exhibited no issues at all; shifts were smooth, and there was no slipping of any kind. We took the vehicle back to the dealer to get it checked out. The dealer found "evidence" of antifreeze in the trans, and recommended a complete replacement. I can't prove the dealer did anything wrong during the service, no more than I could prove that a previous owner fouled something on the vehicle. The trans service was a drain and refill, not a flush.
I have a bit of experience with the 200 series, after driving armored versions for work overseas. We never experienced any trans issues, despite operating under "extreme" conditions. I've only found one other example of this issue occurring in MUD threads.
My question for the collective knowledge of the forum is, have any of you experienced this issue, or heard of such a thing? I have a hard time believing that such a catastrophic failure from corroding lines could happen so fast, with no slipping beforehand. I don't want to replace the trans, but feel I don't have much choice.
Thanks for your time.
