Speaking of hard to find parts... ( I've searched the forum but could not find a thread ) I cannot for the life of me find the transfer shifter inner boot for my '71 Fj40. The cutout on the hump is a triangular shape. Any clues? Or am I searching for something I'll never find?

I'm pretty sure the '78 needs a different box, but it's a good question whether it can be made to adapt the earlier box. There is a thread on the '78 fuse box and it may be worth exploring the topic with the experts there.

Wow. lots of hard work into those! Put me on the list for a mat, I would prefer to cut my own holes since I put an h55 from an 83 into an 81, moving the shifters back.

These will be extremely hard to find, as in never were. I have a 71 FJ40, and they never had floor shifters of any kind as stock. They were three on the tree tranny, and a pull knob on the dash and lever under the dash for the T case shifters.

The boots you have there are not stock for 71. They are from some other year.

You are mistaken I'm afraid as mine has the 3 speed manual and transfer shifter on the floor and is a '70

This has to be why our 40's are not the same. Mine is a USA market vehicle, and as far as I can tell is standard issue for the USA market. Maybe Living in the Past will chime in on this as I'm interested in knowing.

I'd like to see more pics, of the transmission shifter cut-out, and the TC lever cut-out.

Toyota Service News Bulletin of Feb 10, 1961 describes available FJ40 options. Number 14 on the list is the floor mounted shift lever, available as an option until it became standard.

Online catalog identifies the component parts.
