Wondering if anyone has ever put a hood latch underneath the hood of an FJ for added security

I don't know if anybody would ever try to unlatch both latches on the hood but it could be problematic if you don't realize it

You could put a stock hood latch from a 1974 + Cruiser if thats what your looking for.

1/79 the style changed to lift the hood a little pushed a plate back. Blue is the early style and red is the 1/79+ style

In other markets a style with a latch connected to a cable that ran to a interior release handle on the driver's side.

Who is the best source? SOR, CR, CCOT, or?

These have been discontinued by Toyota years ago. Besides the pewter piece in the pictures that is a bracket spot welded to the bin. That bracket have fixed nuts for the latch to bolt to.

Bought the blue bib just to get the hood latch. This will go in my 73. Hood flew up for a PO and damaged it on the windshield.

Yup. Got a box full. $40 plus the ride. Minimum order requirements apply.

The bracket wouldn't be to hard to make. It's not a structural piece. The change in the bib/bezel 1/79 moved the screen or the ornament as Toyota calls it right against the bib. There was no longer room for the handle anymore. New design was simpler and cleaner look not seeing the handle.

I agree. I have contemplated this mod for a while. I think all you would need to do is bolt a piece of square tubing to the underside of the top lip, with the flathead machine screws hidden under the rubber hood cushions. Then bolt the safety catch to the tube.
(Edit: misread the quote)
