UnCut Lexus Key

Has anyone bought an uncut Lexus key and had it cut for their LX450. Wondering how much they run and if there are any issues with that. The other choice is to go straight to trhe dealer for a Key, but thats expensive.

I found a local locksmith who had the keys and could cut them, spendy at $35 per, not sure what the dealer really charges but heard it was in the area of $80.

I just got a key made from the dealer for $45.00. Saab's use roughly the same design and I had one made for my Dad's 9000 for about $35.00 a few years ago.

Got a copy of the master key and had it cut by a local lock smith for under $25.

The only diff betwwen the original Lexus key and the duplicate was that the duplicate key did not have the Lexus logo on the key handle.

But for the money I saved, who cares. :)

Call Kuni Lexus, they have a machine that will laser cut a new key from the master while you wait. Supposedly it's one of just a few. I had it done here in KC for somewhere around thirty five and it works just fine. No cool gold L though.

Out of curiosity, are the Toyota keys cut up the center like the Lexus or are they cut on the edges?

LC keys are standard edge cut.

Anyone know the main difference between having a key lock ignition system with the key cut in the middle as oppose to the standard edge cutting LC vs LX450.

Does that mean the LX450 locking system is better than the LCs?

It sure as hell cost alot more than a standard toyota key.

Harder to pick
Funny.
True, they're a little harder to pick.

I pick locks for fun and profit...well only for fun, I've never charged anyone for picking a lock :)
Personally, I think dumb from an anti-theft standpoint since your average thief has absolutely no clue about how to pick a lock.

If someone wants your vehicle, they'll use a rock and a slide-hammer or something similar to break a window and pull the ignition. They're not going to sit there and pick your lock.

The one benefit, I suppose to the laser cut/inside cut keys is that they might wear less from bouncing around in your pocket. There's less chance of wear from rubbing against other keys.
