Too far north. Too far east.
Congrats Evan and Rory!

The only problem I see is YGQ sounds like YGU. Gonna be hard when calling to tell the two of you apart. Vanity?

Just in time to play around a bit before the Christmas tree run. :D

If I only had a radio... (but that should be remedied soon)

I was wondering how long those would take to show up in the database. I guess that's pretty quick, since the test was only nine days ago. Could one of you share the website to check out the call signs? Also, is it the same website to see what vanities are still available?

I do think a vanity call sign might be in order.

Thanks for letting us know that we're official!

Go here. You can look yourself up, or check for vanity availability.

What is the process of acquiring a vanity call sign?

Also, what has to be included in a call sign? Are there rules and parameters for these call signs?

Thanks.

Onur,

This page explains getting a vanity with way too many words. It's really rather simple once you start in. I did everything online at the FCC website. Just follow the steps.

Yes, there is a call sign convention and it too is explained on this page. It's a little bit confusing (OK, a lot confusing). In general, there are three parts to a call sign ... prefix, district number, then suffix. In the USA the prefix is K, N, and W. This page has the exceptions.

With a Technician license you can have a 1-by-3 (beginning K, N, or W), or a 2-by-3 (beginning K or W) call sign. For a vanity you can use any region number. You don't have to use 5. There is a guy in Rising Sun with the vanity WØRDY, a 1-by-3.

Thanks Jon.

You will know the answer to all 3 of these questions (and a lot more...) once you study for the Technician license. ;)

Studying starts on Thanksgiving day.

;)

Yeah right, that's a load of crock :D Between the eating, drinking, wood cutting and hot tubbing, I don't know if you can squeeze that in my friend.

I've updated my HAM Call sign spreadsheet with the new call signs.

As an aside, while I was speaking (poor reception with the SBB-1 antenna at my end) to Pappy, someone else called me. This might sound strange to some of you but the caller thought that my call sign of KE5LED was cool since his was KE5LCD. Ok, that was definitely a geek moment.

The Southwest is a very harsh place!

Onur-Study up for the tech and general, take both exams, and then remind Mike of your call sign.

That would be *two* geek moments...
