Many of you know Logan Monk (Alkalinetrio). He drove his 92 fj80 down to the beach and managed to shear off all his axle studs on the long side rear axle. He is going to be down there until Sat. But doesn't know what to do. He has no internet.

Logan's phone number 704-438-0730

He needs to find a shop that will press out the old studs and install the new ones. Also needs to figure out where he can get new studs.

He should be able to use a brass drift and tap out the old ones and pull the new ones in using a spacer (like a socket) to seat it. I don't think he has to pull anything apart. NAPA should have some that would work.

Advanced and Auto Zone should also have the parts he needs. Though I've never done it on a cruiser, I've had the same thing happen on a honda when I changed the brakes once. The tire shop had stripped the threads on 3 of the 4 studs. I got the lugs off, but they were never gonna go back on. My suggestion would be to find an Advance Auto/Auto Zone/Napa, tell them the situation, they'll let you borrow their tools if you need to and buy a Haynes manual (or equivelant). He should be able to do it if he's reasonably mechanically inclined. I'm sure someone will be in the area Sat. for the Carolina Beach Trip. They can probly take tools, lend a hand. If I for sure end up going, then I'd be happy to lend a hand.

He should be able to knock them out. I know its not the preferred method but it can be done. There is just enough room to fit new ones in. He can use a socket as a spacer andthe lug nuts to pull the stud into the axle tight.

Maybe link this over to the LowCountry forum too.

I got him a few places around him where they could fix it.

He is at the shop right now. SHould be done soon. Said around 50 to have them all replaced.

Thanks guys.

Good job UC/UC-LC!!

That's what I'm talkin' about!

Good for him!! That price is definitely worth the piece of mind and stress it's saving him right now. I'm glad it all worked out. Now, if we could just have UC's network of wonderful folks orchestrate some sort of scheme to change these darn ga$ price$ as well as we tend to effect everything else that we put our minds too.....

Came home a day early.....safe and sound (a little lighter in the wallet though). Thank you all, especially Marshall for helping saving my @$$ a load of headache. Again, thanks UC!!

Didn't see this until today. Logan sorry you didn't come by Carolina Beach with us. Glad you got fixed up and on your way.
I had to laugh at this line: "He should be able to do it if he's reasonably mechanically inclined." Karl obviously doesn't know you Logan. Karl, Logan is a Mech Engr student at Va Tech and could field strip a LC down to the frame in the dark and rain with a hammer and vise grips lol. He lives about 15 minutes from URE and has probably been wheeling since he was a toddler.
