The more I work on these engines the more I want to put one in something.

I love the 2UZ and 3UZ we have.
Both sitting at 300k miles and running like new.
But if I ever meet that Japanese bastard that put the starter under the manifold, I am going to stab him.

Have been messing with the welder practicing this weekend. Picked up some naval jelly and did some cutting and etching to see if I was getting good penetration in this 1/4” plate.

This is a vertical uphill fillet, the weld profile on the one side was not great but it did penetrate pretty well

Next is a horizontal fillet weld, the vertical leg didn’t penetrate well.

This is a 140 welder and they recommend multiple passes for 1/4” so I’ll try that and some more single passes. Will also do some 3/16” and see what that looks like.

Going through all this before welding anything on the suspension for the SOA so I can make sure it is right. Thinking I’ll be getting a higher power welder soon.

It's in my budget to get a 190 or 210 before I start on Camo (once this LX leaves). I'm game to get the 210 to pick up 120VAC capability if you think you'd want to borrow it.

Are you guys MIG welding? I have MIG, TIG and stick gear at my shop(Hutchens Co). Also a plasma cutter and a big torch. For lack of practice, I am not that good at welding anymore, but one of my guys is excellent.

That's good to know.

I am ready to spring over the rear of my 40 as soon as I can get my hands on some stock 60 springs.

Been working on my newly acquired 60. Dry Ice made quick work of the or sound deadening to exposed the spot welds. Drilled out many spot welds to patch the rear floor.

Clever: the dry ice. What are you going to do with the rust in the roof?

Nice Job!

I do, But I'm doing this for somebody else. The quick back story is I was asked to find a 62 in March for a promotion vehicle for a local business. Agreed to do it for parts only cost because i wanted to see it saved and Loved anything old revived. I found it in VA and that hadn't run since 2005. Ive spent the last 6 months going through it.
funny , I didn't know I lived in VA , lol

Lol. I need to change that to “it was found in VA.” I camped next to the guy that originally found it in VA at Logan’s Run a few years ago.
