The Opening Ceremonies are tomorrow night!
Growing up in my household the Olympics were a Big Deal and I really love the two week long event. So for the others who are big fans here is a thread we can post up in over the next couple of weeks!
I would rather not get into the Politics of China and the Olympic Games and would rather take the road of many athletes and let the Games be about the Sport & the Athletes.:clap::clap:

This is the official Olympics NBC website.
www.nbcolympics.com
And here are a few good articles:
Time Magazines Top 100 Athletes to Watch For
NPR's 10 "Must Watch Stories" from the Beijing Olympics
Really cool pictures of the Amazing Chines Architecture of the stadiums of these games from Sports Illustrated.

Some events I WILL NOT miss:
Men's US Basketball - Dwayne Wade will be the difference in the US winning or losing the gold.

Womens Beach Volley Ball - C'mon skimpy bikinis and diving and rolling in the sand! :bounce::bounce2: But seriously, this is the most equal sport athletic wise between men & women in my opinion.

Swimming - Phelps is trying to beat Mark Spitz record or 7 gold metals at a single games and Dana Torres is 41 and at her 5th Olympic games.

Gymnastics - What is the Olympics without gymnastics. It's all really impressive, except the floor exercise. That is pretty lame....

Women's Softball - This is the last Olympics for baseball & softball.

And Lastly, some events you didn't know were Olympic events or always forget they are Olympic events...

Sailing - Hope they have a windy day or this could be pretty lame! HAHAHA

Tennis - For some reason Olympic tennis doesn't get the recognition that Wimbledon and the other three major Opens get.

Trampoline - This is one event I always forget about but they always show it in highlights because these bastards go HIGH! :bounce::bounce2::bounce:

Handball - I have NEVER heard of handball as an Olympic event! I guess that's why there were always handball courts at all the old public parks and schools.

So I would love to here from the rest of you and I put this thread here because I am afraid to venture into the Dark Dark depths of "CHAT"

Handball. I'm sad to see baseball and softball go! Both good international sports. There's now talk about golf as an Olympic sport in the future.

Big Olympics fan here, I even got a new tv just so I can watch the games. I like track and field events as well as the gymnastics and also the opening and closing ceremonies:cheers:

Love the Olympics.

Growing up in MT I was always a bigger winter Olympics fan but I still enjoy the summer games. When I was a kid I wanted to be Franz Klammer.

What are Olympics? I thought they did away with that stuff in the 90's

:flipoff2:

The Chinese set the bar sooooo high. Awesome opening ceremonies.:clap: :)

It's not even over yet at 11:45:eek: How long will it last???!!!

Table Tennis is where it's at! Go China!!:bounce:

Yeah, those ceremonies were AMAZING.... I don't think that will be topped for a LONG time....
So this morning I have watched a little womens weight lifting, mens badminton, and womens volleyball.

Oh by the way the father of US volleyball coach was killed by a crazy Chinamen who then took his own life.
STORY HERE >>>>>>

I really enjoy the Confusious (sp?) segment! With the boxes filled with people symbolizing water droplets related to life.............you all saw it! Real cool!

:bounce::bounce2: Just finished watching the 4/100 mens relay. :bounce::bounce2:

That should shut those Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys up. Who's smashed now biotch! :flipoff2: :clap:

Hell yeah Mo, that was cool. I stayed up just to see our guys slap the crud out of the damn Frenchies :D.

I haven't been excited about the Olympics since 84 L.A. My daughter is 7 now, and she has been watching it with me. I have a new respect for the atheletes now....since there is NO WAY I could do any of what they are doing now haha....

I agree. I caught the mens gymnastics tonight and WOW. I know most like to poke fun at male gymnasts (sp?) but they do some things that look impossible even though you are watching them do it.

Just watched Micheal Phelps get his third gold. Go Mike.

Mark, where are you at buddy? I thought you would be on here every day. You've got me going on this too now. :D

Yeah, I started a new job this week and I am not on during the day anymore because I actually have something to do and I give a crap now......

I am bummed that the coverage doesn't start till' 8:00 and runs till' 12:00 I wish it would go 7:00 to 11:00! All the good stuff seems to be happening after 10:00 and I missed the relay and the gymnastics the last two nights but I did catch womens volleyball last night :)
