Two sets of wheels adnd TPMS

Does anyone know the compatible clone sensors that fit the TRD Pro wheels? I want to run a second set of wheels w/out dash error or hassle & expense of revisiting dealer to reset code 2x a year.

The sensors must be able to be programmed w/existing OEM wheel sensor codes.

Will you be switching back and forth between the two sets? If not, you can simply have the sensors transferred over to the new wheels.

I am getting new wheels and they will probably be TPMS free - they can stay on my factory wheels. I am going to cover the light and if I need inspection or the emission scam (which is really just a tax) or something, the factory wheels can go in my cargo hold or bolted on if necessary.
 
I will have two sets; one winter one HWY/summer. I don't want dash lights or any other stuff like that so I'll bike the bullet and get the programmable sensors for the second set. Looks like these two are viable options. I just need to confirm a local shop can get the codes from my OEM sensors and program one of these brands:

Standard QS103R TPMS Programmable Sensor
Shrader 33000B TPMS Ssnsor

Both are 315 MZh.

I know for sure other Lexus models have a 2nd set of tpms option. The older vehicles have a button under the dash to switch to the "winter" set of wheels. Not too sure about the newer vehicles. You will still have to use the tech stream to enter the 2nd set of tpms ID's thats on each sensors(oem) for the initial time only.
 
The vehicle can store 5 IDs. Wheel set one is 5 IDs. You need to use programmable wheel senors to create five IDs on the second set of wheels that are identical to the first five. Any competent tire shop can do this. I use four sets of wheels. No issues. If you share a spare between sets --- pay attention. The reset button has to do with pressure values only.
 
The only shop I found so far that can do this wants $375 for EZ Sensors, scan, program, install & mount. Of that $, they want $64 each for the EZ sensors. Those can be had for $36 each online. Problem I am finding is someone w/tools to program the sensors.
 
Someone from the Bay area might chip in a recommended tire shop. You can buy the programming tool but I did not think it was worth the hassle. You can tape the warning light as an alternative. It adds up, you need sensors, perhaps you want to specify metal stems, programming, mounting and balancing times five. If the two sets are sharing a spare there are some considerations for circumference variances. Your price is higher than mine but the difference matches the zip code.

That's actually a very bad idea. Unless you check tire pressures religiously (once a week) and know that you'll never pick up a nail or a screw, then the sensors are a valuable safety system. It was the drivers of Ford Explorers who didn't check their tire pressures that brought you TPMS systems.
 
Found a competent shop: Redwood General Tire. They seem to know what they are doing and more important, have the correct tools. They suggest the Pro-TPMS product. Its programmable via a cellphone app. Still, its close to $400 out the door. But, one & done. Might as well bite the bullet.

Yeah, the Firestone debacle definitely led to it. I can see your point, although I can say I wouldn't mind checking the pressure every now and again, like every other fillup when I would otherwise just be standing around. I can't know when I will pick up a nail or screw, but yes you would have to pay more attention to your tires. The TPMS is vital, however, for those with runflats (which are horrible - BMW's favorite way of pressuring you into a 1400 dollar tire service contract to cover the excessive cost of the tires). It may not be an option anyways since most tire shops/mechanics will require that a TPMS vehicle have TPMS sensors installed, to avoid a fine, and they want the extra money it entails anyway.

You bring up a good point - that it is a violation of Federal law for a shop to defeat a mandated safety device. Accordingly, they must install sensors on a car that originally came equipped with them.

Sure, 49 U.S.C. 30122(b) reads in part :

Prohibition.--A manufacturer, distributor, dealer, or motor vehicle repair business may not


knowingly make inoperative any part of a device or element of design installed on or in a motor vehicle

or motor vehicle equipment in compliance with an applicable motor vehicle safety standard prescribed

under this chapter unless the manufacturer, distributor, dealer, or repair business reasonably believes the

vehicle or equipment will not be used (except for testing or a similar purpose during maintenance or repair)

when the device or element is inoperative.

Yeah, I don't know. Why should we trust someone with 1200 posts, 675 likes, who has been a member here for over 12 years with our sensors...
