Hello all,

1 - my battery dies constantly. Got a brand new one and everything. Tested and nothing is pulling the charge. If I don’t drive the thing every single day it’ll be dead by the second day.

2 - my paint is wearing down real fast on the roof. Peeling and everything. I wax regularly but in the south the sun damage is brutal. Advice or is it ruined?

These problems sound very idiosyncratic. Definitely good thing that you posted on a forum dedicated to these rigs. Personally I have no idea what would cause the battery to not charge properly but assuredly someone with deep experience on the toyota 80 series platform will have run across this sort of thing.

Perhaps the FSM also contains some info on how to diagnose this sort of thing. Sounds strange. Best of luck

Brand? CCA’s?, Vehicle add ons?

If the battery charges properly while you're driving it, but dies overnight something is drawing big amps. Tested or not, you have a draw. How was the amp draw tested?

what year is your 80? I used to have a 91, stock alternator did not fully charge the battery especially since I only use the 80 for short trips killing the battery prematurely. switched to a 94 alternator and never have the issue again. hope it helps

What does, "Got a brand new one and everything" mean? What is meant by "and everything"? What else got replaced?
"Tested and nothing is pulling the charge" Well if nothing is pulling the charge, then why does it die? Obviously something is drawing some current somewhere or the alternator is not charging.
Put a multimeter across the battery terminals with the engine running. You should see 14.4 volts or so. That will tell you that your alternator is at least trying to charge the battery.
If the alternator is OK, then you're looking for a parasitic draw. You can isolate subsections of the truck by removing 1 fusible link at a time and measuring the current across it with an ammeter. This will tell you what subsection is causing the draw and we can move on from there.

Low Country Land Cruisers in Charleston

You have your location as Auburn, if that's where you are now take it to Auburn Starter and Generator on College Street. They're downtown at the RR track.

i would say you have a draw on the battery somewhere. An easy fix could be installing a master kill switch, hard fix would be figuring out what is drawing on the battery.

It definitely charges while driving and dies when parked. Not sure how it was tested because I had a shop take a look at it for me.

my sold 91 sa ock alternator charges as well but not enough to fully charge the battery, switched to a stock 94 alternator and problem solved. check the alternator
