1997 80 with 63000 miles

1992 80 expedition prepared

I guess the choice boils down to what you want to do with the vehicle. The expedition truck is a bit over specced for me - i like the TJM winch bumper, the suspension and the extra fuel capacity. It has been lavished with time and money - all the work professionally carried out.

The low milage truck has 63,000 miles - they won't be many better than this around. It is in great condition. Shame it doesn't have leather. I can change the suspension, make a few other mods and it will serve my purposes just fine.

Interesting...

TOYOTA LANDCRUISER GS 4.2 24V TD manual, 63,000miles, 2 previous owners | eBay

Talking about the absolute best combination 80 you can buy.

Low mileage, moonglow, manual, turbo, locked, steelies, full stripper interior with sunroof...wow. It ain't cheap though.

I want this 100 too.

That 80 has been for sale on AutoTrader.co.uk for some time, as I saw the ad back in January IIRC. The shop (Hipperhome) seems to always have a number of decent looking 80's, also for less money, and a little more mileage. 1HD-FT + 5 speed + triple locked!

The 97 would be my choice. Newer and very well equipped out of the box. 3x lockers, manual transmission which would be best used behind a diesel. You can spend the extra money saved to build this how you want it to fit your needs.

The 92 has a lot of extras added but it has most likely seen more trail time. Who knows how they have used it off road. They obviously built it to wheel. If your after a DD than maybe you would like the automatic trans more but I think that off road the manual trans would rule.

Thanks for that.

As you may see from my Signature I currently have a 100 series. I have owned it for 4 weeks and it has been back at the dealers for the last 3. I have asked for my money back as they have been struggling to fix the suspension, aircon and a very smoky engine. I am going to buy another 80 (i've owned 80s since 1998) I've concluded that Toyota went down the wrong road with the 100 - too much to go wrong - too much does go wrong. Maybe I've been unlucky but the 'refinement' isn't worth it.

Out of these two on eBayI am erring on the side of the 97 with the low miles. I spoke to the previous owner today and it sounds legit.... but it is expensive.. I'm going to see both of them next week.

tricky one jim, if the 97 was vx spec that would have swung it for me.

the 92 has had a LOT of money thrown at it, and hes probable only driven it down to the south of france...

id have a look at both, a good crawl around the both of them could make the decision for you.

The 63,000 miler is out. A dog! I can't reconcile the pictures in the ad with the vehicle. No way this is a low mileage truck. Filthy. Off to see the other one tomorrow...
