Two Flashers? 6 fuses vs. 8?

In reference to this thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/259386-1971-fj40-wiring-diagram.html

I have a 2/71 that only has the one flasher that serves two functions: Turn and Emergency flasher.

Every schematic I have for a 71'ish, (except one from the back of my FSM), shows the two flashers. The FSM FJ40(L) schematic has the correct wiring for my trucks flashers but the fuse box has 8 fuses not the 6 I have.

The schematic toward the end of the above thread is the closest schematic I have ever seen for my 2/71. Except it shows the 2 flashers and the wire colors are different in many places, especially in the Hazard Switch/Turn Signal wiring.

So first question:
What month/year did the 2 flasher wiring go away?

Second question:
Are there differences between the Hazard Switches for 2 flasher trucks vs one flasher? My 1 flasher switch has 9 terminals. The 2 flasher versions seem to only have 7. This means the switches would NOT be interchangeable. Can anyone confirm the two flasher switch has only 7 terminals?

Third question:
On 2 flasher trucks, are the flashers identical? My 2/71 has a large metal box with a pretty sophisticated flasher mechanism inside. (The are so many threads about bi-metallic flashers in cruisers. I opened mine up and believe me, it's a hell of a lot more complicated than that! I plan to post some pics of this later in another thread.) Are later model flashers bi-metallic? (Small round cans?)

Fourth Question:
What month/year did the 6 fuse box give way to the 8 fuse box?

Finally I partially cleaned up the newer 1971 schematic that was posted in the thread referenced above just for IDave ;).

I did not go overboard, just cleaned up the fuzziness a bit to make it more readable.

I have been wondering about the same thing regarding 2 and 1 flasher used.
I don't think you are going to find easy answers for all your question.
It seems to be not related to a particular year.
The flasher you have opened is a turn signal flasher , you can confirm that by looking at the contacts , if they are initially closed then it is a turn signal flasher. This flasher or one that has the same design is used in a trun signal circit , also it is the one used to do both signal and Haz on cruisers.
A haz flasher will have the contacts initially closed, and will have higher resistance.
They work on the same idea , but are not identical.

OK I dug the answers from the EPC. (I finally got working under Vista.)

1st question: What month/year did the 2 flasher wiring go away?

Answer: 7/70. From then on a single flasher was used. (It is NOT a simple bimetallic)

Second question:Are there differences between the Hazard Switches for 2 flasher trucks vs one flasher? My 1 flasher switch has 9 terminals. The 2 flasher versions seem to only have 7. This means the switches would NOT be interchangeable. Can anyone confirm the two flasher switch has only 7 terminals?

Answer: Yes there were three different Hazard switches used. 7/70 to 9/72, 9/72 to 9/73 and 9/73 on.
Here is where it gets weird. The EPC shows a drawing of the 7/70 t0 9/72 switch as having a single wire bullet connector in addition to the multiple pin connector coming off the switch. My 2/71 switch has no single bullet connector.

Third question:On 2 flasher trucks, are the flashers identical?

Answer: No, there were two different styles used. Early to 7/70 flasher(s) were long round can things. 7/70 on were the box style like I have.

4th question: What month/year did the 6 fuse box give way to the 8 fuse box?

Answer: The 6 fuse block was used from 3/69 to 9/71. The 8 fuse block from 9/71 on...

So there you have it. Still a mystery as to why my 2/71 has does not appear to adhere to the EPC specs...
