I think between the offset and the 7" width that those wheels have (from memory) there are much better choices out there to be had. You could buy new aftermarket wheels with a better offset, and 8-9" of width to accommodate larger tires for not much more than good spacers and save yourself the headaches.

That pic is without spacers. Those tires had a particularly tall/square profile and rubbed a little more than others. All avoidable with the right lift or bump stop. I had 10yr old lift and no bump drops so there was some contact. Not enough to to bind or cause concern. Spacers will just push the tire out into the fender lip unless you limit the up travel.

Looking at the picture again I may have been incorrect. Tires I’m looking at are 285/75/17,which I think is smaller than what you are running in the picture?

If I have to get spacers I’m probably out on those wheels. They are 7.5 wide which I believe will accommodate anything I would put on right now. It’s a tire wheel combo that someone is selling locally which is what has my attention, cheap enough combo to get me by until I lift more and get some nicer wheels. I eventually want to jump to the ome j’s and up to a full 35. Who knows, may just fork over 12 bills and go back with 285s on stock wheels.

Those are 37x12.5

I never once ran spacers on the 80 for the wheels. Yes they sit onboard and inch. A 100k miles and a decade later it’s never flipped, sheared wheel studs, or killed a bus full of nuns.

Corbet makes a valid opinion as do you. Better fits out there but I was grabbing used sequoias for 200/4 and rocking out with used 35’s and 37s. I ran 4 sets of those during my tire whoring days. Back to 315 km2 on stock wheels. I’d almost order the scs f5’s but they go out of stock before you can hit checkout cart and it’s 12 bills for wheels alone that I know will get some trail rash.

Granted I have a 95 but have run the wheels with and without spacers for 1000's of miles each way with no issue.
I’m looking at buying Tundra wheels. What back spacing are you running in that picture?

Stock tundra wheel. No spacers.

I always called it 5.5” as it sits about inward an 1”
But tech it’s 5” BS and 18mm offset. So 5.72” look

Sounds like the Tundra wheel get dinged up pretty bad in the rocks? I’ll be wheeling in the Sierras with lots of granite. Thanks for the heads up.

sure. Any wheel will take damage wheeling but the concave shape of the 80 wheel keeps it slightly safer than those. Suppose it depends on the moment and the obstacle. I never damaged one to a point of concern. Only got one with a matched lathing detail and that was in the mud... against a rock :grinpimp:

I was all ready to buy a set of tundra rims. You saved me a big chunk of change. Thank you
