I'm about to buy a tuffy console. I have 9 inches between the triangular corner of the fuel tank and the drivers seat. Was thinking of getting the 8 inch.

Does the Tuffy console sit above the corner of the under seat gas tank? (Picture attached) There's enough room for it to go between but it would be sort of "off center". Thanks for any info!

Cheers

It typically mounts to the bucket seat factory seat frames. And a couple bolts in the back - or at least on later trucks that is how it works. This effectively lifts the console above the gas tank as you put it. You're going to need to make some custom mounts to get that to fit with those style seats

FWIW - In my '77, the 6.5" Tuffy and mounting kit sits above the gas tank. It connects as antFJ mentions, see photos below. I'm not sure Tuffy makes a Mounting kit for early model FJ40's, but I'm sure mounting brackets could be fabricated to make it work.

Looks good. I am planning on mounting it on my factory bucket seat frame. Have to choke up the $250 bucks first. Good to see it worked for you all. Best of luck superswift.

What Tuffy console models fit in the FJ40? I believe there are a couple of models. Where did you pick yours up?
Thanks

Taco - at the time, the best price I found on the internet was from these guys, 4x4 Group Buy. As far as which models fit which 40's, go to Tuffy's web site here, it ask you to "select your vehicle" in the top left, and that should guide you to what your options are.

I selected the 6-1/2" model so it wouldn't squish my seats. :)

Side question but what are most people running, 6.5 or 8 inches for their Tuffys? I saw that 6.5 might be better with stock seats but I wonder if I could get buy with an 8" and best top seats in an Aqualu tub that will have the seat brackets completely recreated.
