The square metal tube is 1.5 x 1.5 inch.
That looks great!! Can you show a pic of the shifter boot clearance after the second try? It's hard to tell...

That's a good amount of space. You have no problem getting your hand around the e-brake? Looks like a good position to me!

No, no problem reaching it at all. The way I installed the console leaves all the possible extra room in the front - read no rear cup holders. Not a problem for me, but could be a concern for some.
