Got my 80 out for the summer the other day. I think by the end if summer it's going to be done or close to it. The drive train is strong but what is left of the body has seen better days. So I was curious if I cut the body from the windshield back and tube it, what would the weight difference roughly be?

1500 to 2000 depending on what you keep off.

Loaded question, there are many paths you could go down.
You could axe the rear half of the frame and go with a four link ala truggy, that would cut a lot of weight.

That is kind of what I was thinking I think. Basically what I am worried about is doing all this work and it not being able to get out if it's own way. For now the drive train will stay the same and it will be driven on the street periodically

I don't understand, is it to slow for you now? Making it lighter will only help that. If you tube out the rear half you may or may not be street legal depending on where you live.

Oh no. It's fine now. If I add 1000 pounds though I would be concerned
If you chop the body and frame from the front doors back you will lose a lot of weight; glass, seats, interior panels, body panels, more than half the frame. Even a bad tube frame is going to weigh a fraction of what you chop off.

I think it depends how much cage and armor weight you add. Ours weighs 5,500 lbs (with 50 lbs of tools and 90 lbs fuel). LB
