I thought it might be time for a Bluff City build thread.

So here it goes...While scouring craigslist late at night trying to find something to waste my time and money on I came across an 80 series with a blown headgasket that appeared to be otherwise in decent shape. It got my attention, I called up the pimp who owned it and we met the next day.

Now, like any good brother he put his best merchandise in the front.

However, the real goods were in the back (underneath a tarp on jack stands in the yard). It was real piece of work that had been abused and neglected, but it called to me and I listened. Maybe it was the headlights or the sweet smell of an old midtown basement, all I knew was it needed to be saved.

After some really short negotiations we settled on a price and now I had to go home to convince my wife how great an idea this was...

In! I like hoes and housewives.

My sweet wife took it really well, (I don't think she was really paying attention to me) but I just knew she would understand.

I showed up the following week with cash in hand.

It was a late night extraction operation pure Memphis style, tow strap pulling it down White Station and Shady Grove (Dash board pic to come). She is dirty, real dirty. I had to pleasure of riding it on the way back and it was one of the few times (in the past 1.5 years) I was upset about not having a mask on and I started to have buyers remorse as I was holding my breath to avoid breathing in the mold spores.

We got home safety and gave her a late night bath and I took a Hibiclens shower. (Sorry for the crazy pic, it was getting late and I was pretty high off the mold spores)

While rinsing the truck I noticed the headliner getting wet near the passenger side sunroof (likely to culprit of the smell and mold).

More to come...

I spent today looking at the truck and wondering what the hell did I do, my wife shared the same feelings which she expressed to me throughout the entire day. So I decided to see if I could really polish this turd. I made up my mind if I could get the paint to look half decent I will press on with this crazy money pit. The toyota 202 black paint on these is a single stage and so I proceeded with Meguires number 7 glaze and a polisher after a quick dawn rinse and claybar treatment.

It needs a little more work, but looking at it now has restored my mission to give this hoe the loving that she deserves.

Fellow Memphian (and midtowner no less) here. I looked and looked for an 80 series when I was in the market and never found the right one. Nicely done!

Guess I should do some updates to that thread my better half started. Parallel 80 build threads, what will people say...

So what is the plan for the HtH build?

I saw your thread, and I am about to do the same with the interior in the next 2 days. Yours looks great so far. I like the white color as well.

I have not really thought of the purpose of it, going to see how it goes for now. Going to at lest put a lift and front bumper

Hopefully I will be able to polish this thing up and save it from the scrap yard or the part out scene.

Some more progress today. I started tackling the inside, and wow it is gross.

I was able to get all the seats, belts and floor out tonight. A wire wheel is the way to go to ge the old carpet backing off. New carpet is on the way! Next, will work on the headliner and then check for the sunroof leak.

Yeah I will use a carpet extractor for the stock carpet. I have to keep it to help mark where you cut on the new carpet. Once that is done it will go in the trash

dbbowen, you are completely out doing me here, but I will provide a little update from tonight.

I pulled the headliner and was able to spot the culprit for the wet carpet and mold issue. As suspected the passenger front side of the sunroof was leaking. I was a little perplexed how proximal the leak was but the drains were pretty clogged up. I need to put a battery in and open the sunroof to check the drains from that side.

Next, will clean out the inside really well and prepare to lay down the sound deadening.

Hah dude I’m going to say your project is something I don’t know if I would have the stones to undertake. Where are you getting new carpet from? My wife really wants me to sound deaden the 60 because “it’s loud”

as far as my motor swap goes…

I ordered the new carpet from Rockauto, it is ACC which is what most people sell carry such as stock interiors. It was not bad ~$300.
