couple of questions about fixing my cruiser. I have an fj40 that has a 73 body and a 76 engine and 4 speed transmission. I have tried to get gas to the carburator and no go. took off the fuel filter and able to get gas to the filter. nothing coming from the fuel pump to the carb. How hard is it to change out the fuel pump on an 76 engine? Can the fuel pump be rebuilt or is it better to just get a new one and put it on. Also, is it better to get a new weber carb or something else to replace the old carb. I will not be running off road that much but a buddy of mine was telling me that the weber is the way to go. I am going to have to rebuild the carb this time and it would save time if I changed it out now while it is down. One more thing, does the hei or dui in this case make much of a diff on how well the cruiser will run compared to the old distributor and points system. I know it is expensive but is there really good bang for the buck from making this upgrade? Also, how can you tell for sure if you have a 1f or 2f engine? thanks for any questions that can be answered. RG

my .02 ....

if your whole set up is in rough shape.. EX: need to do a go over with the distributor (cap, points, rotor, maybe the advance doesn't work quite right), your igniter is bad/your coil is bad then it is cheaper and easier to go with a DUI

you said you have fuel at the filter what about at the pump? could you have a clogged line before the pump but after the filter? the pump itself is easy to replace.. two bolts you'll need to reach with a wrench and a paper gasket that is installed dry... i also don't think they are very expensive
