Having fun pulling the tranny and transfer to change the rear seal. 2 PROBLEMS. First when I pulled the rear drvieshaft, 1/4 cup of oil was trapped at the differential end. Should I change just the oil seal or bearings as well?
Second, trying to disconnect the transfer shift lever. I removed the 17mm bolt but where is the cotter pin to remove? THere is also a 14mm bolt on the side. Does that come off as well? THANKS.

Thanks, I have the FSM and the Haynes manuals. I have spent several hours reading the forum on how to remove the transmission. I just can't seem to figure out the true disconnect for the lever. There are points on the front and the side that are controlled by the mechanism.

The orientation of this schematic is a little strange. I think it's looking from the transmission out towards the transfer shift linkage. Anyway, you want to leave the shift lever behind when you remove the transmission. To do this you remove the fasteners circled in green. One is a bolt on a shaft and the other is a cotter pin with washers. Good Luck.
