Hey guys,
Just recently bought a 2010 LC with about 170k miles on it. It's in pristine condition as far as I can tell. Drives great, no weird codes or issues I'm aware of. Functions as it should so far. It does however do TWO things that I haven't experienced with my 100 series LC that I've owned for the past 10 years.
Issue 1: When starting the engine, occasionally (and by that I mean it could literally go for up to two weeks at a time without doing this behavior, regardless of the weather) you'll be able to hear a single semi-loud knock as the engine is started, it definitely sounds metallic, it's not the loudest thing in the world but definitely not a quiet ping either, you definitely hear it when it happens. My first thought was one of the engine mounts having an issue but I haven't been able to find any evidence of that being the case yet. It will very occasionally do it a couple days in a row, but not usually in the same day. Meaning if it does it once in the morning heading out for a drive, and the engine is then warm, it usually won't do it again until the engine is cold the next day. And even then, as I say, it will sometimes inexplicably disappear and not resurface for a couple weeks at a time. Sometimes it will go as long as 3-4 weeks without a single incident.
Issue 2: Whether or not these are related I don't know, but when I start the engine, it seems like a good 90% of the time (even though I'm obviously in park and my foot is on the break when I start the car) the engine will sustain a rev for a good 2-3 seconds as if I were pressing the accelerator for a good 2-3 seconds. It does this almost every single time. I have no idea if this is normal behavior for a 200 series but I assumed not. After the 2-3 seconds the engine settles down to a normal idle and idles/drives perfectly thereafter.
As far as maintenance, from everything I could find in the records of the vehicle there was nothing abnormal. Its had all it's routine maintenance done and has been in to the dealer for every recall issue (regardless of how small) the 2010 LC has had on file. Anyone have any insight?
