well,

it's sort of my own fault, i let a couple of things go that might or might not have been an issue.

to my suprise, it was the lights (and lack of) that was the major issue.

looks like the inspection facilities in BC may have read that memo they got back in feb. about JDM and other RHD imports. side marker lights and relfectors are.. a must now. RHD head lights? c'mon... yup. have to change those too.

so, drove home today, no BC vin, no rego. crap!

back i go on friday, i've got it under control now...

i did some learn'n today, that's for sure. not a really expensive lesson, but a lesson no less.

if you have just imported a truck, looks like RHD's are getting a little more attention that they used to here in BC.

Changing out the headlights is simple, and really a must do for anyone with a RHD in a LHD country. It simply makes sense. With LHD lights, the glass is cut for LHD roads so the light angles up and to the right, lighting signposts etc. And has a hard cut line on the left so it does not glare into passing vehicles drivers eyes. The glass in the RHD lights points up and to the left...shining into oncoming traffic.

I've heard that in Europe, now with increased LHD and RHD vehicles due to the tunnel to England...they get around this by having drivers install a strip on the headlights, making the cutline straight across.

Crusty. If you are taking this opportuniyt to go H4, any Bosch 7" round replacement hi/lo lights I've seen on the shelf are not stamped DOT or SAE. Hella on the other hand are stamped SAE.

Reflectors and running lights will be simple too. Make it look factory and order from Toyota. :)

Good for you on the Troopy. I simply love the classic 40 series look.

woohoo...happy troop carrying!

Makes me curious about my 45. It had been registered in BC for years b4 I got it. I drove it for a couple of years sailing thru aircare everytime (but with weird looks, this was circa 2000 AD b4 the big rush of RHD vehicles). Then one year during aircare the tester wants to check my vin with whats on the papers, turns out there was no VIN..so I had to get a BC assigned one. It was pretty painless, if nothing but a tad frustrating.
I've never actually checked my headlights to see if they've been swapped, I'll guess yes only because the originals must have burned out since 1982. I have no marker lights, aside from the ones on the front signals.
But I'm years away from fixing it up again for daily use anyways, so I'll cross that tanktrap when I get to it.
